Archie and i were invited to the dressage one last year, so not quite the same. It was a good experience, but if you arent a ''name'' your chances of getting on are slim IMO.

I think Cazzy has a few horses on the scheme so she might be able to tell you a bit more about it. Most 7yo's of the sort they are looking for will be out jumping 1.40m classes by now, probably have some small international experience, and probably have qualified for Newcomers finals, Foxhunter finals, Grade C finals and age class finals throughout their short careers so I wouldn't get too exited just yet

really thats strange as i have just read the criteria and horses have to be jumping at 7yo 1.25m level which he has just started doing?? also if there is a reason why they havent performed at this level then you get to tell them - i have sent details regarding him not being broken untill 5yo when i bought him and starting BSJA in March this year ??

If it is the above i wont bother sending him ??

"Within this Pathway there is flexibility, as not all horses begin to fulfil their potential at
the same age. The Pathway is run on a rolling basis and horses may be taken off for
various reasons and other horses might be included at a later stage of their development."

That's from the mission statement. So it would seem there is some flexibility.

I don't know how the SJ one works but the Eventing one is now completely results oriented so if the horse gains the required results by the required age at each stage then it's on. If it doesn't meet the next stage by the next review (end of the season) then it's off. Who is riding it is incidental so long as the results are there.

It would seem the sj and dressage are at least somewhat more subjective but even then, IF you have a horse that's fulfilled the performance requirements what's the harm in taking it? At the very least you'll get some feedback and know more where you stand against similar horses.

Sorry, I wasn't meaning to put down Gadget's achievements and there's certainly no harm in sending him. As the saying goes "You've got to be in it to win it!". I was just pointing out that the standard of animal you will be judged against is extremely high...some of those horses will go to the World Young Horse Championships in Lanaken this year for instance...so not to expect too much, or be too disappointed if he isn't selected

Good luck though, and keep us posted of his progress.

MINIMUM CRITERIA GUIDELINES

5 year-olds = Need to be showing form at 1.10m*
6 year-olds = Need to be showing form at 1.20m*
7 & 8 year-olds = Need to be showing form at 1.25 – 1.30m*

Minimum criteria guidelines must be met unless there are extenuating circumstances which
have prevented the horse from competing at the levels detailed above, such as, broodmares
who have been out of competition for breeding purposes, horses who have been out of work
due to injury etc. If these extenuating circumstances apply to any of the horses you have
listed above, please write a brief description on the back of this page.

That's from the application form. I suspect it depends on how many spots are available - it sounds like if the basic criteria are met then it's subjective up until the reach their numbers. I suspect horses showing form will have an advantage but if they're taking a large number I wouldn't assume that's the only point of assessment. There may also - as in the eventing - be controls on horses that have done "too much" in order to obtain their results. A horse that's done five comps and won three of them looks better on paper than a horse that's done 15 and won three!

It sounds like they want to see them, which seems fair. That way they can assess how much of the result is the horse and how promising combinations might be brought on even more effectively.
