Can someone please explain the following - i don't seem to get it!!

a: To qualify for second rounds, you have to have 4 double clears between 1st May and 31st April - correct?

b: Does that mean that I have to get 4 double clears at Novice to do novice second rounds and 4 double clears at Discovery to do discovery second rounds?

c: So if i got 4 double clears at novice between 1st may and 31st April, but only 2 double clears at Discovery, would I only be able to do the Novice class at second round shows and would have to go to a different show to do Discovery, or do shows do first rounds and second rounds together?

d: Am i making this a lot more complicated than need be?!

Please someone help my little pea brain!!! x

Thanks!! x

I think you've got it right, well thats how I understand it.

I think with the second rounds it may depend on the show and what they are running, so if they were only running second rounds then to do novice and disco you would have needed to get 4 double clears for each class.

So if you only have 2 dc for disco then you would not be able to compete in a second round.

Stand to be corrected as only just learning this myself!

I've not done bs for years, and not really bothered to keep up with current rules. But second rounds aren't held as routinely as first rounds, so check where they are held near you before worrying too much. I've heard plenty of stories about people having to travel far to second rounds, which if you have a limited comp budget & are just doing it for fun, can make it not worthwhile in the first year. And be aware second rounds are much bigger. Afaik you have it right, but like I say I don't keep up with the rules so I could be wrong. It's possible I dreamt it but I'm sure there's been a change somewhere in that rule about 4 double clears. Try posting in comp riders, someone more up to date might know. (not v helpful I know but at least I've bumped it so someone else can help!)

Thanks, I have a few bsja locations by me so should never have to travel too far but i don't want to be travelling to do one class only! I'm going to just see how we get on but I like to understand how it all works too!

I'm only aiming at Novice and Discovery for now and see how we get on as I know the jumps can go up a fair bit after that

Got to get 4 dc in whatever classes your doing to be eligible for the 2nd rounds

As said above you need 4 dc's in each class you want to do 2nd rounds for. First round classes are just the usual BN and Disco you will get at shows, you can usually enter on the day and they are not drawn order. They may be run as A7, 2 phase or single phase.

2nd round dates will be announced on the BS website. There are not many and you can only do 2, one in your area and one outside of area. You usually need to enter in advance and they are drawn order. They will be over three rounds with the second two rounds against the clock (from memory). BN usually gets to 1.15m in the last jump off and Disco probably 1.20/1.25.

Hope that helps :)
