My first BSJA this weekend - mildly anxious..! If I forget the course in a moment of intense panic, can my trusty boyfriend yell instructions over the fence or will that eliminate me BE-style?!

Depends where you go but it is outside assistance so they could technically eliminate you unless you were subtle

Just canter round until you see the next number

most courses flow so it's pretty logical where the next fence is (except one certain centre in Glos I know

Which class are you doing? If its the British Novice its usually the first class of the day after the clear round. I would say go really early before the jumping has started so you can take your time walking the course. Even then sit and mull it over and then walk it again just to be sure. Most venues I go to the clear round is just the first 5 or 6 fences of the BN course so its usually set up for you to walk first thing. If its one of the later classes you should still get an opportunity to walk the course but they usually like to chivvy you on to get the class started so you don't get as much time to walk it and get it straight in your head.
Good Luck

Don't panic about it, if you were jumping at your local riding club you wouldn't be worrying about forgetting the course would you? Just treat the course at the weekend the same & you'll be ok.

Oh....shouting out to the rider is classed as 'outside interference' & you can be eliminated for it.
