BSJA Help!

I’ve been having a think about Badger’s future. I bought him with the idea of dabbling in a bit of eventing and affiliating him and doing BE80s and BE90s, as that’s all I can do with him cause of his height.

But I’ve rethought it and I’m more interested in show jumping now and thinking about (eventually) affiliating him and doing unaffiliated ODEs for fun.

But the BSJA website is confusing me. Can I affiliate him as a senior as he’s only 13.2hh? Is it worth doing the Club membership first? Do we need to be confidently jumping 90-1m courses before we affiliate?

I’m not planning on doing it soon as we need more practise, but I like setting long term goals to aim for.

I'm aiming for affiliated sj so not an expert but have done some research. From my understanding - yes, ponies can jump in senior classes. You just wouldn't be able to jump in the pony classes if you're an adult. If you want to affiliate fully then yes I would be jumping 90-1m technical courses confidently. Mine has just moved up to 1m classes unaff and I'd like him very confident at those before affiliating. The classes do start at 85 but personally for me it seems cheaper to reach the upper limit of unaff before affiliating. Plus - I'm quite enjoying doing the 'quiet' meter classes and I know that the smallest affiliated classes will be the busiest.

Ponies below 14hh (142cm) are not permitted to compete in senior competitions (except club). Ponies of 142cm and above will only be permitted to compete in Senior competitions if ridden by an Associate or Senior Member. Riders that are eligible for Junior competitions are not permitted to jump ponies in senior classes.

That probably answers your question. So you will need to do Club.
