It's my goal to affiliate BSJA. I've been doing well at 2'6"/2'9" and qualified for trailblazers 0.75m and 0.85m and would really like to try some BSJA on a ticket - do you think I'm ready?

Also, at Felbridge Show Centre they have British Novice on 9 September, but they have a clear round beforehand I thought I might try. Will the clear round be the same height as BN or slightly smaller?
 
I think you would probably want to get unaff experience up to 90cm/1m before you affiliate - that is what I will be doing

I think you should be ok. The clear round should be a bit smaller. do you jump him any bigger at home/doing other things or is 2'9'' the max you've been doing? If so then maybe you should wait til you have done a bit more.

BSJA courses look bigger than unaffiliated because they tend to be more solid looking and have bigger spreads. Why don't you go and watch at one and see what you think??

Think i would be inclined to agree coz the jump off can go up quite a bit and BSJA courses are so much better built and up to height than unaffiliated. I think i would be doing a few trailblazers first!!

If you do decide to go on the 9th then the clear round is usually the same height as the BN but all venues differ

My advice would be first to go to an unaffiliated competition at a centre which holds bsja, because they will probably buikd similar courses.

I'm sure you'll cope fine, even just do the clear round and then try the class after. The clear round is normally slightly smaller.
 
sounds like i've got similar kind of experience as you and asked exactly the same question earlier! No harm in jumping on a ticket and giving it a go, also, I was told there are intro's that start as low as 70cm, may be worth a shot just to see the type of jumps and different atmosphere

I've been jumping trailblazers 75 and 85cm and unaffiliated venues that hold bsja. He's a very honest chap and has no real trouble with the deisgn of the courses or heights. He's spent about 2 years jumping at this level and I just think it's time to bite the bullet and do it!

We came 4th at Felbridge last weekend in the 2'6" which is why I'm thinking of going back there to do the clear round.
 
have you been jumping full up 2ft 6/9 courses at local,as in my experience our local shows are never up to height . if you have then id go and watch a BN class and see what you think or as harri says try an intro show.
 
The warm up at felbridge varies around 80-90 cm, you can enter on the day as you know so I would see how you go in the warm up, then enter the BN, there should also be a 90cm amateur class (same height as BN) if you miss the BN. If you dont get round the warm up well then either dependant on if felbridge is running unaff that day go jump in your comfort zone unaff, or take some helpers over to the clear round arena and try and build a course around 80-90cm in height and see how you get on with no pressure. If you have qualified for the trailblazers 85cm, dont see any reason why you shouldnt have a go! And you are familiar with felbridge so that makes it easier. Please go, have fun!!
