Well seeing as i've now made the decsision to give up the eventing and just specialise in BSJA i have a question for all you BSJAers.
I know how the classes progress, british novice, discovery etc etc but what i wana know is what major shows, championships, titles etc are there to aim for in EACH level.
I'm currently competing Novice and will be up to discovery january time, are there any big shows or championships etc to aim for at this level? If so where when how etc lol

Thankies cant wait to see replies

Blimey thats a bit of a change of heart!!
Eventing is much more fun you know.....
With regards to champs, you can aim for BN 2nd rounds and jump some amateur classes but theres nothing wildly exciting until you get to the slightly higher classes

Welcome to the 'dark side' lol!

The national championships at each level are :-

British Novice (90cm)
Discovery (1m)
Newcomers (1.10m)
Foxhunter (1.20m)

These classes run throughout the year and all require you to jump 4 double clears to qualify for the 2nd Rounds of each where the heights go up and a certain no. of qualifiers from each then proceed to the national finals in each level.

You then have winter and summer versions of the following championships :-

Grade C (1.25m / 1.30m)
Grades B&C (1.30m)

Again, the summer versions of these champs go through to a 2nd round (although placing rather than double clears qualify you at this level) and then culminate in finals at RIHS in the summer. The winter versions (Blue Chips) go direct to the national finals at Solihull.

There are then various other championships at Grade B and Grade A.

On top of all these, there are various 'Amateur' championships that you can qualify for at heights from 90cm to 1.20m

You will also find some show centres hold their own qualifying series on top....so no shortage of things to jump

Rambo - you forgot Blue Chip and Scope.

You can also qualify in BN, Dis, Nc etc for a the Blue Chip finals. Its one competion and the first 8 qualify. There are various qualifiers around the country. blue chip

You also have the scope qualifiers in which you have to come in the top 4 at 1m, 1.05, 1.15....

Basically, you need to think about what sort of jumping you are looking to do, and this will probably be dictated by the horse(s) you have at the time. If you are looking to produce young horses you will be carefully planning your route to 4 DC's in each of the national classes (BN, Disco, NC, Fox) and some of the age classes. However, when you get to the upper levels of these classes (particularly NC's and Foxhunter), you are jumping some serious tracks and will be competing against household names. There aren't that many 'ordinary' people who jump a Foxhunter 2nd Round, and even fewer who realistically have a chance of getting placed and making the final at HOYS. If you are less bothered about the production of novices, then you might decide to target the Amateur championships which also count towards regional league tables. For these classes you can ride any grade of horse but the heights are obviously lower but still go upto 1.20m/1.30m which is big enough though ! To a certain degree it will depend on what the show centres in your area run though

Also worth pointing out that the second rounds for BN-Fox are much bigger than the first rounds. I haven't done BSJA for a few years so may be a bit out or date but I thought they are around 15cm higher?

They're usually 10cm higher, except BN which is 15cm I think

They also run over 3 rounds though so get another 15cm - 20cm higher by the 3rd round (2nd JO).
