British Novice is meet to encourage new and young horse not put them off! [ QUOTE ]

Flintus and i went we had a good day but everybody we spoke to said `this is the highest it been here all season `
Did anybody else find this problem yesterday ? I did enjoy it my horse is green and needs all the miles he can get under his belt !
we had two stops in unaffiliated class those scary pink fillers of the corner ! then two down in the British novice bit of a breaks failure!

Hope you have better luck next time.
Like you say your horse is green and it would have been a good experience for him/her.
Your braver than me i havent jumped a course since i was 13 and im now 29...lol

in all honesty, it was much bigger than it should of been, more 3'6-3'9ft. it was quite off putting! flint was goin well up until fence 8 where the striding between 7 & 8 wasnt a 4 or a 5, i went for a long one and he stopped! doh, tried to hold him again for the 5, ding ding! eliminated! overall a good day out just wish it had of been what it said on the tin!

3'6-3'9ft in a BN, are you sure you entered the right class??

Surely they arent allowed to build it bigger than the max height.....
Presumably people can complain and get it put down??

well we wernt kicking up a fuss! the spread was sickening to me on my 15hh little grey and only 2 went clear out of 44. the 2st half was smaller than the 1st but it was still bigger than it should of been!

That looks about BN height to me. If youdon't agree with the height ask the course builder to measure it for you. I moan all the time about distances and stuff and they change them.

I would say thats about BN (jump off height) or PN which is around 1m.

Addington always build on the big side also so tbh I go knowing i will be jumping a bigger track than I should.

That's not far over 90cm, and wouldn't be unreasonable for a fence in the second phase/jump off.
The problem sometimes is that at unaffiliated level the courses are often built below height and almost always aren't built up to width, therefore it can be a bit of a shock first time out affiliated.
Don't give up though, after a few more rounds you will be wondering what the problem was!

Yeh i was more implying on the comment of the height being about 3'9ft....the pic looks about right

Sorry I was replying to the pic flintus put up - damn QR

strange how everyone was complaining about it then ppl alot more experienced than me must have been something wrong with it !
ow well i know what to expect next time but ive got a feeling it will be smaller somehow !

trick is to know exactly where certain heights come up to on you. I know where 1m and 1m20 are without even thinking which means I easily know how up to height a course is.

I agree the picture doesn't look overly large just square and up to height. if only 2 out of 44 were clear (i presume that means DC as a 2phase) then yes the course builder unless a very poor field made the course too demanding for the field. BUT being large doens't mean it won't jump well as a large course can be invitingly built and jump very well whereas on the other hand an overly technical but under height course can jump a lot worse.

Without seeing the actual course we can only speculate but height wise it doesn't look too bad to me and at Solihull I would expect it to be up to height and probably a more demanding course that other smaller venues as there will be more entries.

i defo want to go again! it was flints 1st show since last summer so wanted something easy to get him back into it!
it wasnt as frightening jumping it as it was walking it! all i could think of was little 15hh legs! lol

im skint as well! and david has sed he will pay for my bsja and get me a trailer for this year ! woo woo! im skint an all now!!! aaaargh! but wud love to do the BN at weston!

no a derby house british novice qualifier is the posh name for a normal british novice. eg same height same widths same rules. They should always actually be referred to that now (was until recently Sue Carson British Novice First Round Qualifier) since change of sponsor.

The one you want to watch out for are the DERBY HOUSE WINTER NOVICE qualfiers (note no british) which are 1m10 and qualify for Hickstead! although they wouldn't have been 2 phase as they are over 3 rounds normally
