Doing some research for a uni assignment and I want to know... how many Oldenburg jumping stallions can we name?

well Arko III is probably the most famous oldenburg stallion at the mo. His sire Argentinus and Dam Sire Beach Boy shouldn't be missed though either. You also have likes of Lucky Boy who are in the Oldenburg studbook as approved stallion but in reality are not an Oldenburg at all

Well, KWPN is the most successful breed in SJ'ing, so i guess it must have the most stallions on it's books also

The BSJA do a stallion ranking list on their website- just checked and the website is down at the mo but if you can get hold of someone who has a current copy of the BSJA ominbus/yearbook, the list should be in there.....I *think* it would also say what breeding each stallion is.
At a harboured guess I would say KWPN?

They don't actually do a ranking list per se.....they simply have a list of graded stallions as per their own grading system....Bronze, Silver and Gold

I would agree that it would be KWPN for SJ but there are also a large number of hanoverians.

Half the thing is though that a lot of these stallions are approved for multiple stud books, and could at birth have been registered with about 3 different WB stud books depending on where it had been foaled and what the Dam or sire was!

You just have to see that the top hano stallion of the year for 2006 was a pure british bred TB!!!

Both of my 'KWPN's are sired by Selle Francais stallions

I find him hugely irritating and have to restrain myself every lecture in case I accidentally on purpose try to punch him! Well I have really hated him since he told me my assignment was so bad that he handed it round the ENTIRE equine department at college to see what they thought!

Well hopefully if my socks will pull up far enough I should manage a decent grade this time! Not that it matters much as I won't have his lectures next year... bliss!

And Rambo yep its normally down to the mare but that is because the mare is normally residing in the country of its stud book.

You could theoretically in England take a KWPN mare and breed it to a TB stallion that was approved to the Oldenburg, hanoverian, holsteiner and Trakenher stud books. You then have the choice to register the foal with about 8 different stud books!! Be it the individual breed books, the UK versions where applicable and then also the Anglo European SB and the British WB SB! so just a few. Can be a bit more complex as to which should be chosen I think but basically those would be the options. mad isnt' it but its all because WBs are a breed as a whole but each of the stud books is a type of WB rather than an individual breed as such. Although each type tends to have its own indivudal attributes in terms of confirmation etc etc

I don't "do" breeding, and I don't understand SJ, so how am I meant to write this assignment??! Argh thanks for helping though guys!

I might just be a sheep and write about Hanoverians and have done with it! At least they promote their UK society and have a website!

I would think Holstein is the best breed for jumping as many bloodlines are adopted into studbooks such as KWPN and have been prolific winners over the years.
