I rode in one a few times last year when trying a horse. The guy selling the horse had a BUA. He absolutely raved about it.

I liked it (once I got over the looks, as I'm a very traditional hunting person!)and found it very comfortable. It was a little slippery out hunting, when the "leather" got wet, but it looks very hardwearing.

It was great for that particular horse who was cold backed at the time - he was better in that saddle than a conventional one.

That's useful, thank you. Anyone else?

I have had one for a year and absolutely love it. It is lightweight and extremely comfortable. It also seems to fit everything and I've lent it to two friends with horses with sore backs as an interim measure and they have both got on well with it. Unfortunately it is now an expensive hacking saddle as the friend who was eventing my horse (and who originally recommended the saddle) is no longer riding. However, I do jump occasionally and it feels really secure to jump in, despite having no knee blocks (even for a nervous jumper like me!). I've also got the dressage flaps which are perfect for eventing as you can change the flaps in 5 minutes. However,if you want to concentrate on pure dressage they may not put you in as good a position as a good dressage saddle. Hope this helps!

Do they do trials? Or do you simply have to buy them... and what happens if you don't feel it's the right saddle for you or your horse?

Am also interested but would like to try one ... am looking the Endurance set up ..

Zuzan I would speak to them, quite a few people (including Sam who I suspect spacefaer went to) will happily let you try one on your horse, have a sit on one of theirs or take a trip to a yard if there are a few people interested. They do also have fitters that I think are keen you get a good trial of them, not sure on the take it away and try situation but definitely worth an ask I would think.

There are a few reviews on the twittereventing facebook page that would be worth you reading if you haven't already. They seem generally positive, I've seen a couple available second hand of late but that mostly seems to be beacuse of horses breaking!

Thanks ester.. have joined the twittereventing group... . incidentally how do you search a group for a specific topic on facebook.. or how do I find the bua saddle reviews in that group.. searching facebook for Bua doesn't seem to return any results for twittereventing.

Taking a trip to a yard might be hard as I am 25 miles north of Inverness... if I was take my own horse.. and I would ideally like to try it on her rather than just me sit on one of their saddles..

I have emailed Bua and still waiting to hear back from them.. also messaged on facebook will look forward to hearing from them.

The search button keeps moving! on a pc at the moment it is on the left hand side bar half way down says 'search this group'

ah yes, iverness might be tricky!

The only thing some people say is about the distance from the horse but they then say they don't notice it after a while, it's just different to 'usual' but also possibly less of an issue endurancing anyway when really you need to be comfortable.

QB one went up today I think on a somerset group hang on let me see if I can find it for you!

Purely because there aren't that many people that are selling horses (and of the sort I would also expect you to maybe looking at) that have bua saddles (and rave about them) so please don't be too spooked!

pmsl ! Bought the horse, hated the saddle to look at, but forgot I was riding in it - that to me is a compliment! (Our usual saddles are Stubben, so you can see how far it was from my comfort zone!)

Turns out if you order one off of the guy who covers the UK (Ivor Young) you can have one on a 4 day trial. So thats what im doing :)

I bought a 2nd hand one for a trial on understanding that I could return it if it didn't work... It didn't ... far far to narrow for my horse... they do not fit everything by a long shot... great concept BUT they need to do different widths.. and refine the design

I would give them a few more years.. It's a quite radical departure from conventional trees.

NB I have gone with a Hidalgo Venice dressage saddle.. which has a flexible leather tree.. looks very very conventional.. and Hidalgo also have a choice of seats

I’ve had my BUA for a little over a year now and am consistently very happy with it. I have ridden and competed a variety of different horses in it including thoroughbreds, quarter horses, warm bloods, and all seem very comfortable in the saddle.

The leather components have held up very well and still look brand new after a nice cleaning. The fabric component (meshy material that covers the tree panels) does have one fingernail-sized rub in it. This in no way affects the performance or safety of the saddle. This is also something that can easily be replaced as you can buy this component individually from the website.

I currently have the general purpose flaps and am looking into buying jump flaps in the near future, as the GP flaps aren’t quite forward enough for my leg over higher fences (5’7’’ tall). The company is currently developing a jump flap with both front and rear blocks, so I’m just waiting for that to be available.

My favorite thing about this saddle is the security it offers. I often refer to the saddle as my seatbelt. It absorbs most concussive forces between horse and rider, such that unexpected bucks, etc. are much easier to ride. I had a horses drop a shoulder and pull a 180 in the middle of a nice forward trot on the trail (because we almost literally ran into a deer), and while I ended up with my head level with my toes on one side, my legs and seat barely moved at all. I currently ride a warmblood who likes to absolutely launch herself over scary looking fences and am consistently impressed that I remain in the saddle every time this happens.

That’s just my two cents after having had the saddle for a year. I will say the feel is VERY different than a traditional saddle, and I would strongly recommend doing a trial if at all possible in your area!
