Brought a Bucas Smartex Turnout rug- old deign, pre 2007/8 I think and Im not impressed...

Its like a Mini skirt, just covers his tummy and also slips back and looks like it will rub as the fleece lining is even on the shoulder area. Im thinking of using it as a stable rug only.

However, I like the idea of the rug and was wondering if the newer ones fit differently or how Bucas's rugs fit everyones horses?

Help please!

I have an old bucas that is a lovely rug but i agree it does tend to slip back a little bit :/ im happy to travel them in it, but wouldnt want them to be in it over night or anything as it does get quite tight on the shoulders.

Hmmm, thats my worry.

Its the heavy version with neck so Ive paid a fair amount of money for it but too late to send it back now as Ive had it a while just not tried it on!

But in his stable he tends to get really warm- the muck heap is near and I think this warms his stable up somehow so was hoping this would be ok...

Looks like e bay

Got the older design silver Power turnout classic neck on my TB x warmblood. Fits him really well and never moves.

Had the older style Smartex with neck on my heavier warmblood and whilst it did not move on him I could not do the top (nearest his ears) neck strap up as it made it too tight for him. He is now in a Weatherbeeta TAKA Freestyle which does not move on him although it always slid over on my other horse.

I guess it is rugs for horses!

I had some turnout ones a few years ago, they fitted well on a SHP type, but they were too tight on the shoulders on the show ponies hence they are now stored away in a rug box

We had a livery who used Buccas rugs. Everyone hated them as they were so difficult to get on and off and fasten. The horse was clipped and the lining stuck to him.

Plus they were really tight across the front.

My last mare could not go out without some protection due to scarring on her back so every year I bought her a Bucas Sunshower rug. The idea was super as they are waterproof and reflect the sun so perfect for her.

However she normally took a 6'9" rug and I had to buy the 7' (the largest they did) and it was still too small. Always tight across her bum and tummy and I agree they are hard to fasten/unfasten.

Worked well for what I needed but was expensive considering it didn't really fit.

Can you see if they sell a chest extender for it? Horsewear used
to sell them for theirs (maybe still do). Its like a fabric insert with
clips/buckles each end which attach to the rug and make it a bit
roomier across the chest. I think I have an old horsewear one
I could photograph if this doesn't make sense. Does the bucas have
surcingle clips or buckles ?

We have a new stable rug as well as a turnout which I bought on ebay so not sure when it was made. I really like them both but I think they do come up a bit small so possibly need the next size up. The new stable rug seems to have quite roomy shoulders I think. No slipping at all.
