Hi all I just wanted some reviews for bucas turnout rugs, I am considering getting my horse one for the winter as she will be living out, are they value for money and why do you think they are better? Thanks :)

Love them, our TB has the Smartex Med weight, but she is in at night. Would recommend the Power Extra for serious warmth

I got a high neck bucas power extra when i was on assisted livery and was charged for rug changes etc. Have to say it was brilliant for this as it covered a broad temperature range meaning i could chuck it on when my horse was a bit wet or sweaty after work and then could be worn in sun, rain, snow etc and in the stable with out changing and saved me money.

I am not one for leaving rugs on and never taking them off having said that and always like to take them off at least once a day at some point to have a rummage underneath.
What i would say is that the Bucas may come up quite small/narrow so if you have a cobby type or wide shouldered horse check a fit or i think they do a wider neck version.

I also have a second hand bucas which i use which is fab too. i love them might save up for a sun shower one. I am undecided if i need to spend that much on a light weight tho..

That's interesting, I am going to be keeping mine out all year after the cold weather has gone, and she doesn't appreciate rug changes in the winter although she gets them. It would be useful to have a rug like that by the sounds of it...

I have some Bucas Power max turnouts and I do not like them at all. They are forever hanging over to one side. I was always a staunch disliker of them up till recently when I bought 4 Bucas Irish turnouts and I have to say I like them. Most of my rugs are Rambos (which are my absolute favourites) but I needed a few more and the store didn't have their size so I bought the Bucas Irish ones and they've been very good for the horses I had in them over winter.

Have the Bucas Smartex. Its wonderful, can put it on a soaking wet horse and the lining stays dry. Nicely designed rug and the buckles and straps are the nicest I have.

The fly rug is good too, but not for a wide horse, fits the finer built horse very well.

My smartex drives me nuts. Horse rolls as soon as he's turned out and it slips without self righting so he always ends up with a wedgy! I only use it now as an emergency everything's wet rug or if he's very sweaty (it is amazing for turning out hot sweaty horses)
I'd not personally buy again.

I have the full neck silver fleece lined one and although great for a wet horse caught in a downpour and freezing cold it seems to rub the hair off my mares shoulder and withers and see gets quite narky in it.

We had the smartex stable for my little coblet and she would try and rip it off overnight - which she didn't do in the same weight cotton lined stable rugs so we can only assume she didn't like the fleece - she was clipped so maybe it caught on her short stubbly hair...?

Great rugs as in the don't leak, keep them warm etc but depends on your horse if the fits suits them.

I still have my ancient Rambo's and they refuse to give in and leak and coming up for 15 years old I think they are value for money :D
