Hi has anyone got one of these? Keen to know whether they really are OK to leave on a horse in June/July; I have an IDxTB who is a total wuss, it only has to rain for a few hours in the Summer and he is a shaking mess. I am worried about him while I go on holiday; I'm getting someone to check him twice a day but he could be a shivering wreck by the time she arrives so I thought leaving him in one of these could solve the problem...Any reports appreciated thanks!

Just be aware that it is not any more than very light drizzle proof. I used mine once. It showered and she was soaked through. :( Very unhappy as my Bucas Smartex Rain is fab. I got her a Rhino LW rug instead which is wonderful. I only use it on cooler days as it is warmer than the Sunshower.

i love mine! i really like the fact its light to reflect and has a mesh lining
also the amigo is ok- they are cheap on hope valley saddlery atm.

Hi

These rugs are great for days like today with sunshine and showers, but as has already been said, when my mare was wearing hers during a very wet night, she was soaked through when I checked her the next morning.
I guess they really are 'shower' proof and not 'persistant' rain proof! I use it when light rain is forecast and for this it does its job well and I don't have to stress about her overheating, and as she is grey and a mud monster, it does a pretty good job of keeping her clean!

Ah thanks for that. I guess I will have to rethink, as it's the heavier rain that's the problem. Cheers for the feedback, they are not cheap so I am pleased to learn this beforehand :-)

I've got one & is some of the best money I've spent recently - very pleased!
Have to say that mine is totally waterproof. We've had a few recent downpours & he has been dry over his back. He was a bit wet at the shoulders - as normal for any rug without a neck cover.
I've washed the rug a couple of times in my home washing machine - but always use Nikwax waterproof wash & reproofer.
The rug has performed perfectly - in both hot / wet weather - and I'm personally very pleased. I've also got a Fal lightweight rug but it has nylon lining, he will sweat in this rug if its warm / sunny. He's never sweated in the Sunshower.
Perhaps the rugs differ in 'waterproofness'?? Or wash in re-proofer to ensure a dry horse??
Hope this helps!
