Bucking mare !

My 8 year warmblood mare seems to be very sensitive at the moment. Out hacking she is bucking quite a lot in canter, when schooling if your legs go any further back than normal she bucks. No physical issues, has been checked so has her saddles. I am guessing hormonal issues and have started her on oestress to see if this helps. She is fairly spooky at the best of times but tends to mellow out over summer. This is the first mare I have owned have always had geldings in the past. She has a lovely nature so is not stroppy to handle, in fact she loves being cuddled. Just has this attitude when being ridden.

So, any experienced mare owners out there - some advice would be appreciated ? Do mares become over-sensitive when not in season, or approaching their first one of the year?

I don't know if its this weird weather but our mares have started to come into season.

My rather stroppy hormonal mare has been very grumpy recently and late Jan/ Feb time is often her most bucky as she starts to come into her seasons.
Although to be honest I haven't noticed she has stopped this winter.
She hates my leg on her side, particular the right side.
She has usually settled by June
I would be interested to hear how you get on with Oestress. didn't seem to work for us last summer/Autumn and make her dropping unbearably runny/liquid.

More than likely to be hormonal. Look at Thunderbrooks feeds for herbs and spices that can help. Cheaper than Oestress.

If the symptoms continue, think of gastric ulcers being the cause.
