Managed to aquire another horse, so now have a mini herd of 4
Hes a lovely TB ex racer and an absolute machine at jumping!
Used to ride him for his owner before I got my first horse and really loved him so jumped at the chace of having him when she put him up for sale (got him on trial atm).
Anyway cutting a long story short he has always thrown the odd buck in has always been a general grumpy boy when the mood takes him!
I got on him last week and when i asked for trot he pinned his ears back and threw a buck in, i ignored it and asked again until he moved forward, i did a 20 metre circle pulled him back to walk gave him a scratch and carried on. I left it at that that day as it was gail force winds and my first ride!
Iv ridden him a few times since and he keeps doing the same, and even when i get him into trot if i ask him to keep going hell have a tantrum and throw a buck in!
Iv just been trying to ignore it and just kept asking until he did as he was told...
So am i doing the right thing? Should I just ingnore it? I think he might just be testing me and seems to settle a bit once he knows he cant get away with it...
Its not his back, teeth, saddle etc. as had everything checked when he came!
His old owner (good friend) was a novice and let him get away with everything since i left as she wasnt a confident rider in the slightest (Hence why hes being sold, as shes found a happy hacker!) , is this why he is like this now? He was dream to ride before!
Any advice welcome!
Thankyou!
