Hello all,

In the next year or so I'm going to be looking for another horse (my girl is being fully retired after this summer :( ) ... Slowly trying to save up the pennies!

I have a sort of idea of what I want:

14.3-15.3
Preferably a mare
Aged 5-8
I like Connies or Connie X TB's (nothing too cobby though! Not that i don't like cobs just I prefer finer types)
It would be a bit of an all rounder really.. I would like to do ODEs, pleasure rides, maybe some BS up to 1m max.
I love hacking so it MUST be able to safely hack alone or in company
Must be sane/sensible
I don't mind them being green in the school as this could be worked on.
Must be able to load and be good with vet/farrier

It would be vetted.

What sort of budget do you think I would need? (Assuming tack & rugs would be bought separately)

Well sounds like my mare but she's a shade smaller at 14.1. I originally had her up for £3.5k but its a buyer's market at the moment and I need a quick sale so she's reduced to £2950 which is very cheap for what she is!

I would budget on £2.5-4k

I have bought for a client something similar a few months ago, a connie mare, just over 14.2hh, 8yo, safe as houses and nice person, green in the school and with a little bit less jumping talent than you are looking for for just under £3K. I considered it a good deal and would expect to add another £500-£1k for some jumping ability.

Great thank you! I was thinking around 3.5-4k :) Hopefully I should be in the situation to start looking this time next year :)

connies and connie x tb are very fashionable at the moment and you might be able to get another breed or combination just as good for less money. In the same way as when people were paying extra to get a horse that was coloured when they were very fashionable.

I bought exactly this in January - only it's a Section D gelding.

He's only 5 and is green in the school, but absolutely fantastic on the road in heavy farm traffic alone and in company. Loads/travels well, great with vet/dentist/farrier/back lady.

£2600 with saddle, 3 bridles & 2 rugs. He's perfect and I can't believe my luck.

I also looked at Connies and they're twice the price of Welsh Cobs.

im selling one at the moment who has been doing that job - hes advertised for 4k. He is a nicely bred dutch warmblood though and has scope to go bigger than 1m
