I am about to move house and have the luxury of potentially being able to have a stable block at home. I have a 48x34 concrete base which would be ideal as a foundation but want to get the best out of every inch. Can anyone recommend a company that will offer ideas on layout. Unfortunately not a huge budget. Ideally looking to put up 8 stables with washbox/solarium.TIA

My maths isn't brilliant but I make that 12 x 17 each taking a bit off each for walls, how big does the solarium need to be? Is 10 x 17 enough if it is then you'd have 6 stables at 12 x 17 and at one end you'd have a stable either side of 12 x 12 and the solarium in the middle, might be easier to kep warm if stables on 3 sides and if 12 x 12 was big enough you could do the same at the other end with a tack/feed room in the middle. so 4 large stables, 4 smallish plus solarium and tack/feed room.

Why not use Sketch up or even something like Floorplanner (this is for houses but you could easily just make "rooms" to mock up a stable building) to do a layout yourself? There are loads of possible different ways of doing it, and it really depends on the location on your site too, ie where the doors would face, power and water availability.
When I was building stables from scratch at home, I used Sketch up and spent ages perfecting my plan, I had to fit it into a bit of an odd shaped space, but it has worked out perfectly.

When I looked a few years back Scotts gave me a free layout service and they were very good; I then had to pay £100 for the formal plans for the planning application: but that fee would have been offset against an order. I'd imagine most companies would do that. Or, buy some graph paper. I'm in the process of designing both a house and yard and I'm doing a lot of scribbling on paper first!
