We're building a bank and sunken road but I don't know what the dimensions should be on the top of the bank and in hte sunken road...I'd don't want any bounces but to jump up, 1 or 2 strides then jump down and visa versa for the sunken road. Do the same distances from normal jumps strides apply to steps/banks/drops? I.e. I normally walk 8 steps for a 1-stride double for my horse - should I use this?
Many thanks!

The plan is to have a huge bank with a 'sunken' section in the middle which will be ground level, so in effect you step up onto the bank then step down then step up onto the second bank and step down again. The banks will have two height options, the smaller option on the left side and the bigger on the right side. The smallest height will probably be about 2ft6 and the bigger height 3ft, although I don't know what would be best. What heights would you advise?! It's to use for my babies and to for a bit of schooling so I don't want anything too challenging.

okay, the best i've seen is this configuration: a square bank about a foot and a half or 2 foot high, with 1 stride across the top (about 7- 7 1/2 yards, no more really cos it's low), and then a gap of about the same, another bank the same as the first, and right next to it, a higher bank about 3 foot high (or a little more), also square. so, you can go up and across 3 banks individually, on their own, or go up, stride, down, stride, up, stride, up, stride, off, or the other way around that same line. gives lots of options. hope that makes sense. i think WFP's Schooling For Success has a pic on the front of the ort of configuration i mean.
i'd keep the lengths very slightly short, personally, cos it encourages a better jump than if the horse is reaching for the distance. if you come slowly the horse can always shuffle. PM me if that's not enough info.
you can always add a skinny at either end or both ends, for interest!

Thanks - sounds like a really gd plan as it gives so many options! Think I'll go for 7 1/2 yrds as he has quite a long stride. Then I'll go for a 2ft option and a 3 ft 3 option.
I'll have to put up some photos when it's done! Thanks
