Hi all...
Well following my visit to A&E on Wed night I am now back on my feet a bit and back with the horses. After the accident I had to leave them at new yard with new YO - Lu (youngster I fell off) apparently turned into a total nightmare, and had to be left out in the field with River my older gelding as he stressed as soon as they were parted and YO couldnt handle him. Now he has been as quiet as a lamb in the 5 months I've had him - so this was a surprise to me.
He's been fine since I've been back hobbling around but seems very frightened. Took him into the school last night for a gentle lunge and he was shaking... again this isn't really like him - he's quite a bold chap...
So I've been spending lots of one on one time with him and gradually increasing the time he spends away from Riv (the pair bond was getting strong and making it difficult), but always keeping river within sight. I also thought I'd take him into the school a few more times (perhaps with River too) to make him feel more confident - but do you guys have any tips on how I can help him feel better?!
Clearly the fall and then me being away has upset him - coupled with being at a new yard and the saddle pinching his back, but I want to make sure I help him understand everything is ok - and be able to be independent from River with other people (he's fine if I'm there but if someone else takes him away apparently he's very naughty)...
Hints and tips please!!! Am I doing the right things?!
Thanks guys... a nice glass of pimms on this sunny day for you all following that essay!!!
