Hi,

I've posted in the Stable Yard section but just wondered if anyone looking through here had any recommendations on stable/shelter mannufacturers? I'm based in the North West and am planning on putting up three stables plus hay store plus tack room. Costs are as always a big factor so we are looking at doing as much ourselves as we can so I'm guessing the best way would be to buy "flat pack". Does anyone have any advice on who was good and who was best to avoid?

I used Redmires for mine, although they did build them for me too so not sure if they do flat pack. I love my stables, men who built them were great and very efficient.

You need to contact your local suppliers. I drove to a local company with a trailer and collected my buildings on a large trailer. We saved the VAT and about 20% off the price. Many of the companies will offer the opportunity to do this. It is not hard to put them together - you just need a couple of strong people and some power tools. They don't generally offer them as flat packs, it is just that the large sections are put togther in their yard and transported to you in sections.

We have built our own at our last property and at this one. We have built both timber and here block work and rendered. Both times it was far cheaper to build them ourselves than buy them in, not to mention stronger and you can do them whatever size and design you like. If you are a competant DIY er then you can do it. We prepared a base and had ready mix concrete poured in, We bought in ready made roof trusses just told the manfacturer what we wanted, then fitted everything ourselves. Had a man do the block work here, for a block of 4 and a feed room. Hubby made the doors. At the other house we did a timber block of 2 and did it all ourselves for half the cost, all quite easy and both look really good.
