Who has done this?
Did you use one company to do the whole lot and how much did it cost you (we would want a 40x20)?
I was wondering if you save anything getting a contractor to do the ground works and then an arena company to do the rest. Ours would only be for 1 or 2 horses and no big jumping so something quite basic would do. Also site is level already with good access.
Thanks

I am currently in the process of all this.

Think our 20x40 will be between 12-14k. Cant seem to do it any cheaper. We are having a martins collins surface but they have given me £60 per tonne off, so its worked out cheaper than other, not so good, surfaces!

very excited for when it is completed.

Thanks. I must have missed the thread yesterday. 14k sounds cheap, I thought it might end up being nearer double that.

I don't know how people spend that much I know someone who built a 40x20 at 2k. Fencing was £500 , hardcore and drains £500, digger £150, membrane and silica sand with fibre £800 ish. But all work was mainly done by them and friends if that helps. But its up to you whatever you think is best :-)

The way you save money is to hire an experience digger driver, buy as good a surface as you can afford and do the rest DIY.

We've done two of ours (different properties), one was about 7 years ago, 20x60 for 9k, the other was last year 20x40 for 12k (but in France where everything is more expensive!).

The overall cost will depend on how far you are from the quarry and what kind of access you have for trucks. If you cut corners with drainage and the membrane you may have problems shortly thereafter which is a bit of a shame for all that work.

If you are interested I posted a step by step photo guide a while ago when we completed our latest one.

I don't mean to doubt your friend but are you sure they weren't fibbing to impress? 150 quid will only get you a mini-digger for the day, that won't get you anywhere with an arena. 800 quid for silica sand and fibre for the 250 tonnes of silica and 3 tonnes of fibre is just impossible even if you live in the quarry! Membrane would only be dead cheap if you use 100 grade which won't last a month.

Maybe they are telling FIBBLES! lol. just thought i would ad it incase it was possible haha, it does look good though but they do tend to make things sound better then they are :S. BAD FIBBLEY PEOPLE! . dont listen to me lol prob shouldnt of mentioned it oops :)

Transport costs for hardcore and whatever surface you choose are horrendous at the moment; that's where most of your money will go! As has been said, whatever you do, don't skimp on drainage.
