Poor guy.. my boy is usually a ladies man and lives with our mares, but since the babies arrived he has to live with the other boys and although im not concerned he is in danger he looks like a tramp.. covered in scratches and bites! Ive started putting a fly rug on him as protection even though he isnt massively bothered by the flies.. not sure how much this is helping the bullying though as he looks like a right geek!!!
hmmm thats an idea actually...he's a wimpy TB so normally wears his turnout but as it was nice today he was naked
think at least fly rug might take the worst of the bites...its even worse because i think i know which horse is doing the bullying and my 4 year old has made best friends with him! traitor!
Im forever trying to save my coblet from the field bully, luckily he is quicker than the bully (whos 27!!) but still very nasty!! last night my friends horse came back from 'holiday' (4 days away) and got chased and chased round the field last night with my coblet
had to call the owner of the bully but she is good about it and told me to bring him in to the smaller field on his own for a fews days as that usually settles him , for 27 he doesnt half shift mind!!!
Unfortunately some horses are always the ones picked on aren't they. We have an old TB (25) and his 'best mate' is my sister's 9 yo (Andalusian x TB), they spend a lot of time together and are raely very far apart. However, the poor old TB doesn't half get some bites and scrapes all over him and I can bet most are from his so called best bud!
There isn't an awful lot you can do but I would maybe suggest covering the areas he is likely to get bitten in tonnes and tonnes of fly spray so this may put off the bully after he gets a taste of it!
Hmmm......this happened to my horse not so long ago....his bum has only just recovered but his turnout never did.
I asked YO to swap groups and since then he has been fine and happy.....can yours moved at all?
I know you said he is not in any life-threatening danger but I found my lad was becoming worried and upset about going out (most unlike him)....he's like a different horse now.....
God, its like worrying about nyour kids getting picked on at school
oh i don't think he's worried about going out (he tried to drag me to the field this morning!
) and normally i think he's quite quick at getting out of the way
i was debating to ask for him to be moved but want my two in the same field and the other geldings field has even more horses in it so probably more likely to get kicked or bitten in there!
