Bumps on face, any ideas?

Jerry came back from Ali's with a couple of what looked like bites on his face, but they still havent cleared up (3 weeks later) and each day he was more and more, they start off as a lump, then get a bit of a head on them, which falls off leaving a hole, this then repeats and then dont seem to go down. Have been putting aloe vera gel on them which helps if you catch them early, but there still seem to be more each day.

I am not convinced they are bites now, and think maybe they are some sort of reaction, but have no idea to what, as he had them when he was away, and is still getting them now he is home

Any ideas?

Maybe an alleric reaction? Could it be to new feed or bedding? I'd get a vet out.

he isnt fed anything other than soaked hay, and is on the same bedding he has been on for months, is odd as it seems to be the same whether he is at home or away

It does sound a bit like an allergy- maybe an allergy to bites? If that makes sense, i.e. a severe reaction. I've seen a similar effect from nettles on a thin skinned horse?

Also I once had over 105 mosquito bites on my face and neck in the tropics - yes I'm afraid I did bother to count them - and they had the horrible crusty head/scab/hole thing going on for quite a while. Aloe vera is good stuff but if they don't clear up definitely get the vet to take a look.

is he turned out????if so is tere brambles in a hedge of the field as he may be putting his head where it isnt wanted???

Has he had anything containing DEET used around the area? Even a few days before the reaction was noticed.

Thanks for your responses, havent used anything with deet at all, and he has no access to brambles as field is all electric fenced. He is having his teeth done on monday so will get the vet to have a look then
