A friend of mines horse has come out with bumps on his head. There are 2 hard boney lumps in the middle of his forhead, about in line with his eyes. They are painful to touch and the horse objects to any contact to them. He is also now developing another one under his eye. The 2 original lumps have been there quite a few weeks now and only now have they noticed a few hairs coming off them. Otherwise there is no obvious damage to the skin like with an injury etc.

Any ideas about what these could be? The vet doesn't know!

Just a stab in the dark-could it be exostosis? I have them on my heels and when they are forming they hurt but once formed they only hurt when I wear new shoes. Ive no idea why they form and Ive had mine chopped off twice but they keep coming back.Ive learned to live with them now. If his arent interfering with his bridle and dont begin to suppurate Id leave well alone. has the vet thought about bone cysts? Mairi.

From the sounds of things, the vet has simply said that he doesn't know what they are and to just leave them! But she wants to show this horse so obviously this is not the sort of thing she wants happening to his face!

Whats exostosis? Does it happen in horses?

And how could it be sinus related?

Have a look at google, it gives a good explaination of exostosis. I hope the lumps disappear, shame they had to come up on a show horse
