After a ride at the forest on Monday, Ruby has come up with these bumps on the front of both her cannon bones. One is ever so slightly warm the other is no different to the rest of that leg and she isn't lame.

She already has matching splints on these legs, from over a year a go, these came up pretty much over night and stayed cold and she was never lame so we just lightly worked through it. I manage her workload appropriately on different surfaces and try and mix in some road work into her work but don't over do it - What the hell am i doing wrong!

Im loath to the call the vet right now, and am happy just to monitor for a few days, so i actually have something to tell the vet and don't write off her front legs for insurance purposes for no reason! Im thinking positioning makes it look like Digital Extensor Tendon? Have cold hosed tonight and left magnetic stable boots on and thinking box rest for a couple of days with some controlled walking cold boots and hosing?

Another who would say sore shins/ shin splints, she is obviously going to be prone to laying down extra bone for some reason judging by the size of her splint in the photo, the shin is vulnerable to stress and can show on xrays as tiny stress fractures, commonly seen in young racehorses.

Mine adding this to his list of random issues last year, came up overnight, hot on a thermal image and to touch. Vet said maybe bucked shins and just to monitor for a few days before we investigated more. A week off later it was completely gone and thermal image was normal again. Very weird. We think he had banged it somehow.

That's great thank you, had a quick read sounds like it could be this

Thank you, I've just read the above article and does look to be similar! Yes her two splints are a right matching pair, the first one actually came up when she was out on holiday last year, the second one crept up when she was coming back into work after the holiday.

So would you agree box for a few days with controlled walking?

Ahh very interesting! Sounds about right then, will keep an eye for a few days and see what to do from there
