Can anyone tell me about these. I have just met a young neighbour out hacking her horse in one. I asked what it was ,being an old fogey I'm not up to date with new gadgets

. When she told me the name I said, isn't it just for lunging but she said no you could ride in it as well, but I thought her horse looked very overbent and not very happy in it. They are not perhaps the most knowledgable horse owners so just thought I would see what others thought.

Like a sort of side rein, but allows the horse to flex left or right without being socked in the gob by a fixed rein. Never used one myself... never seen the point in it.
It's possible to over-tighten almost any artificial aid though, so I wouldn't have been surprised if it was over-tight if horsey was overbent.

not great in my opinion... better than draw reins, because at least it's elastic, but it's independent of rider's hands, and doesn't really reward the horse for doing the right thing. if the horse is really hollow and the rider can't find a way to show it how to go the right way, then maybe it's a way of showing it how to go, but i'd be more inclined to be trying to work out why it's hollowing (always a symptom imho) than "fixing" it.

I would think it probably was over tightened, poor lad was standing with his chin on his chest while i was talking to his rider. Hopefully the novelty will wear off soon, can't really see the point in hacking in something like this.
