What are your thoughts on them? Any good/bad experiences? I was having a lesson on Saturday and we popped one on Chloe for 10 minutes - at first she backed off, but within a few minutes she was coming up into the contact rather than doing anything and everything to evade it. I was able to give her more support in her mouth because her head wasn't flinging all over the place, so the contact was consistent, and we were able to really get on with some flatwork issues. She began tracking up properly and using her back and carrying me rather than ploughing along. It felt really lovely, and I was half as tired as I usually am by the end of the lesson. So a v. positive experience for me - and after we took it off she had SO much more confidence, as did I - and we were really working well by the end of it.

Opinions/personal experiences with them much appreciated - just interested to hear what you think, really.

They can be really useful but like any training aid, don't allow your horse to become dependant on it. Make sure you only uses them for short periods and then ride without the bungee once you have used the bungee to help you estblish a more settled way of going.

I had one I used for lunging - I rarely use any gadgets when I am riding - but mainly because I am usually riding on my own - and hate to think what could go wrong without someone to take the gadget off quickly if something started going bad.

I think that used in circumstances like this it can be beneficial - it can show you and your horse what you are looking for.

The only thing I find with bungees is that if you have a horse that looks to evade then they will find out - given a chance - that the bungee is just that - and it will stretch. My old horse used to think the bungee was hilarious and would go along even more camel shaped than usual!!!

Used one for the first day on saturday - not sure if i liked it or not, he tried everything to resist it in trot but his walk was really good in it.

Gonna keep using it once a week and see what happens

Yep she was only in it for 10 mins, and I had someone very experienced on the ground instructing me. we did take it off and she remained consistent and happy for the rest of the session.

instea dof a bungee i had some heavy round elastic that i put clips on either end, put them through the bit from the saddle then down through under the girth....used it only when ,lunging and had a better outline than lunging..

that was until someone knicked iot when they left the yard.....

Depends on the horse I guess, but i have always had excellent results on the lunge and ridden. Used it to try and reducate an older horse and now on a very green younger horse and both took to it after the first session. Best to lunge with it first time. They are not restrictive and not dependent on the riders hand so helps the horse build its confidence and trust in the contact so becoming softer and less resistant. Gets my vote but i wouldnt use anything else.
