My fields suffer from burdock. Great for the horses who relish the leaves, nightmare this time of year when their manes and tails get clogged with the burrs.

Two horses arrived this year. One had a sarcoid develop, which became a nasty weeping lump, and then after a couple of months dropped off - this has healed nicely. The other had sarcoids for years on his ears, they have since dissappeared. I know this is probably unrelated, it it is of interest.

Burdock root is reputedly good for skin health, does anyone know any more about it's medicinal properties. I'm seriously thinking about digging the roots out and harvesting them.

I have a herbal horse book somewhere in my car but as she's in the garage being fixed, I can't have a look at it:p

You could have a look at this (mostly copied verbatim from A Modern Horse Herbal by Hilary Self
