Sorry to be a bit late with this but we didn't get home 'til late due to an accident on the A47 snarling up traffic leaving the showground even more than usual! (Hope no one was badly hurt)

Anyway, got to see the stallions and have to say they were a lovely bunch. All behaved beautifully in the atmosphere, all under saddle bar one , who's handler I deal feel sorry for as the others trotted and cantered by!

Those that particularly took my eye were Revolution, Stravinsky, Weston Justice, MJ Fine Art, Deanes San Ciro Hit and Wish Upon A Star. All lovely moving, quality horses.
I did take photos but as we could only get to sit by the collecting ring entrance, they are not very good at all and apologies to the stallion owners......

Ah, thanks for that, sorted
smile.gif
........I knew I'd make some mistake as it was drizzling I didn't make notes and from the photo angles and in the small photobucket pics, can't see their numbers!

Which took your eye?

LOL!
grin.gif

Actually I was surprised how many people stayed to watch.........I thought there might be a mass exodus as the last test finished before lunch!
The stand in the background of my pics is the free standing only one and not as full as the seating. The folks looking elsewhere are either looking at the stallions just coming out, as I photo'd the one coming in or they're watching the others warming up in the collecting ring behind the stand.

Were there many spectators? Half of them in the background seem to be looking in the opposite direction...

LOL, The spectators would have been looking at the 'other' stallion(s) parading in the ring ...... and the spectators looking over the back of the green boarding were watching the stallions warming up in the collecting ring

Super photos – thanks for sharing Bananaman.

We had a super time helping to organise the parade and despite the rain we had a lot of enquiries about the stallions taking part after the parade.

Paul did very well with his stallion in-hand !! ….. I think it was Set adrift

My favourite character of the parade just had to be Millennium – what a super horse – what a gentleman; he simply loved the attention outside the ring from adoring by-passers.

Sadly no show jumpers attended, so for me that was a little sad. Needless to say that all the stallions were so well behaved and it was lovely to be able to have the opportunity of seeing the stallions in the flesh and chat to their owner/riders.

Sadly, I got a text the morning of the parade to say that Spirit couldn’t make it.

All in all a super (wet!) day & the Parade went down very well with spectators and generated lots of interest in the stallions parading

I was sad that Spirit wasn't there too, would love to see him in the flesh.

Well done to all the organisers, I hope it was successful for the stallion owners too. Sounds like it might be and it would be good if it could be a regular feature.

Millenium is such a dude isn't he? I remember seeing him for the first time at the Nationals..........this huge horse passaging 'politely' alongside Laura who was leading him and has not a lot of weight to her!!! He was so excited and really wanted to show off but knew he had to contain it!

Oooh, I didn't realise!

Glad he was on my list of eyecatchers then!!!

Seriously though, I know nothing of event breeding, being a dressage bod myself, but was impressed with the loose paces of a lot of the event stallions.

I am gonig to see Windsor Heights soon, who else should I go and see? I like King of the Hill and Wish Upon a Star in those photos, Weston Justice isn't there is he?

If you're refering to my comment re the event stallions, I guess what I mean is those that event themselves and are marketed as suitable to breed event horses, as opposed to those more known for dressage alone.
smile.gif

I think I did take photos of all stallions present but the one of Weston Justice obviously wasn't good enough, imo, to post.

Oooh, lovely to see Deanes San ciro hit, my mare is in foal to him!!

Yes, shame his record is not great at the moment, but I understand that he only goes to Sam for the events, so he doesnt get any schooling with sam in between, plus he has been covering. Still, lets hope that he improves with age!!

Well the ones that caught my eye were mentioned in my opening post but they would probably suit a wide variety of mares, so it would depend on your mare and her strong and weak points, I guess.
smile.gif

All the stallions behaved beautifully, none misbehaved, Set Adrift, was a little bright but with very good reason.............I don't know many that would not want to skip about when being led amongst others cantering by, especially in that atmoshere!

However, Set Adrift was also rather 'on his toes' shall we say, at Moulton earlier this year, someone said that his sire was sharp though?

Some lovely looking stallions, Wish Upon a Star oozes presence!

Although I have to say some of them look a bit ordinary looking, you could easily mistake a couple of them for being geldings...IMO!

Ooh how remiss of me - didn't realise there was going to be a Parade!
Who organised it - to promote British breeding? Obv not just Event stallions as Woodcroft Garuda paraded. So why no showjumpers? You were involved Amelia, please fill me in!

The British Lead Body for Performance Sport Horses and Ponies (PSHP) organsied it at the request of Burghley. The PSHP was also the organisation that ran the Moulton stallion show in March and publishes The British Breeder magazine.

The parade was designe to showcase all the different kinds of stallion used to produce event horses (eg sporst ponies stallions for event ponies, Thoroughbreds to add speed, Irish bloodlines for those wishing to add them, dressage horses for mares that need better paces added, showjumpers to add more jump for the final phase, plus a group of Primitive Risings, some coloured horses which eventers often like and a group of rising stars.

The reason why there were no showjumpers is becuase although we expected three on the day (Arazmatazz, Renkum Valentino and Semoers Spirt), Aramataz's owner got stuck in Spain and couldn't back in time to ride him, Henk had to stay at home to organise the last minite details for his auction and Spirit's owner's fatehr in law was taken suddenly ill. All legitimate reasons for the non-appearances of the horses concerned so pleae don't assume -- as people seem to be increasingly doing on this list -- that it must be the organisers fault that not all was entirely perfect on the day. When you are dealing with horses and people the unpredicatable happens (one poor horse -- not a showjumper -- even got as far as the collecting ring and then went down with mild colic symptoms) and as long as all safety angles are covered there is nothing much else you can do to prevent mishaps/ last minute changes.

I'm probably going to get completely slated here judging on the enthusiastic comments above (and I know I'm used to seeing German stallion parades and probably spoilt because of it) but I thought it could have been done so much better. The two first stallions in consisted of a little pony who, whilst exceptionally sweet, looked identical in every way to my 4 year old son's little pony and a pretty ordinary looking tb ridden off the bit and who looked stiff behind. No wow entrances/music and a commentator that didn't speak clearly enough. Many stallions not ridden well at all which didn't help. I did like a couple of stallions (eg Wish upon a Star) but generally not impressed at all!!!!

I thought the Moulton parade had a lot more atmosphere and the individual shows there worked much better.

Yes but the Moulton parade was a dedicated event to promoting stallions, Burghley asked for the lunch break to be filled with a stallion based feature which is what was provided very well. Especially as having 20 stallions riding round together could potentially be difficult it all ran fairly smoothly in well organised groups with good commentary. Yes Friday is more of a breeding day (BYEH) but it was good how many people watched on thursday.
I've seen TB's very badly shown at Vechta so the Germans aren't perfect at it.

Great pictures, shame the organises of the parade did not think to give out a list of the stallions present, or include something in the programme, I know some stallions owners were under the impression that they were paying to be one of 12 or 15 stallions filling the lunchtime slot, and were surprsed to find 20 plus, and there was no way of working out who was who, if you missed the commentary on a particular horse

No list of stallions / studcards was a major oversight by the organisers!

Trying to remember who was who, the ones that stood out to me were Weston Justice (I'm biased - we have a yearling by him - but it was a relief that I still liked him on seeing him again if that makes sense), Revolution, DSCH and the chestnut at the end (Wish Upon a Star?).

I had my own mare in mind though and was mentally trying to find something that would complement her. She is a very petite little TB who lacks a bit of movement.

Wow, thanks for those
smile.gif

It was my birthday so we couldn't go and I was gutted to be missing the parade. It's great to hear they were so well behaved, I think it's really important to consider temperament when choosing a stallion. We're hoping to use Diddicoy next year and have heard he's a calm chap, which would be perfect for one of our mares who can get herself in a bit of a tizz, as those at the Catherston Futurity will know
