Burghley vid from youtube - Marie Ryan's fall :( and other stuff.

Poor Marie, he definately spooked in mid air and ouch, I bet his stifles are killing him today.

So glad they're both ok.

Having watched his round it looked like he was having a bit of a confidence crisis as he'd jumped the few fences prior to that one in the same way, just happened to be that one wasn't filled in and he couldn't bank it.

It looked to me like he just stood off a stride to soon, she was waiting for one more and got left behind and they totally unbalanced each other, as he couldnt make the distance from where he went from.

Can't see the vid, but she was not having a good round to that point and had banked some fences. I think she should have pulled up or perhaps been pulled up?

The same goes for a rider later in the day who fell at the mushrooms, having watched the horse so far round the course I screamed at the telly when she tryed the mushrooms, the fall was inevitable.

Yes, that was Anna Warneke at the mushroom, I agree, as she came into it I was thinking "oh, no..."
Marie's horse was looking overawed by the whole thing for a while, obviously very honest to keep trying but he was doing huge spooky jumps and banking fences.
So glad they're both okay, bet he's got very sore stifles.

yeah, very painful, I just hope it is ok and not too injured. .
I loved Matt's report on the event, very typical of him to be so blunt, but hey at least we know exactly what he was thinking, and I rekon he justified himself rather well.

If you look at the ground rail and where he took off it didn't look like she got a duff stride, but more that he did a "helicopter" jump and landed on the back rail. It was a big ouch, whatever, and it's good to hear they're both ok.

He did that at the dairy farm too. He really wasnt jumping well. He was just going up. She was really riding him trying to get him to go forward - but he wasnt really responding. To be fair it looked like an accident waiting to happen as soon as they got to jump he couldnt bank off.

Glad they are both OK.

Me & mum thought the same in the warm up, we saw her give him a few clouts in the warm up as he wasnt really going anywhere. She must have guts of steel to then go out an dtackle that course on a horse not 100%

Glad to hear both ok though.

Interesting, Matt's comment that the horse was "lackluster" in dressage and they were already surprised and disappointed with him. Obviously there were other problems on the day but it does make one wonder if part of his lack of enthusiasm had a physical root.

Do you remember him jumping at Aston?
He was just after you... in the sjing he didnt look at all happy and stopped nearly having poor Marie off

He went much better on the xc, but wasnt convinced.

Don't think it takes guts, think its irresponsible to the horse, to herself and to the sport. Its dangerous enough as it it without going out on a horse that clearly wasn't happy. The accident was waiting to happen and she should have pulled up. She wasn't educating the horse she was scaring it. Surely she should have taken the approach that there is always another day and dropped it back a level to get its confidence back or if it just was under the weather, put it back in the stable and wait for the right day. Burghley isn't a walk in the park and fatal accidents happen in situations like this.

I would be interested to know if the horse is 100% ok health wise, could sound like he isnt...(however I do not know the horse and never seen him compete previously so it cuold just be him)
