Burial of cremation?

We are facing the fact that Wurzel, our wonderful no-eyed JRT, is nearing the end of the road. She is nearly 15, and has had a wonderful life. However, we are wondering what to do with her once she has been pts. OH wants to bury her here, which is fine apart from 1) he takes ages to get projects started, and once she is dead I would quite like her buried fairly soon after, 2) most of our land is a thin layer of soil over rubble) and 3) once she is dead, she won't care where she is.

Firstly really sorry for you, they give us so much joy - and then break our hearts.

Hubby wants Bumble Dog stuffed and put on wheels so we can take her everywhere with us

(probably faster than she goes now!!!) However I think the sensible plan is to bury her up on the airfield next to where Heidi1's dog Harry (he was 20) is buried - then if we do move we can always go back and visit her grave.

Personally I hate the idea of cremation - put me back into the soil to do some good - not further pollute the world!!!!!

I would have my girl buried on her own and keep her ashes in a little box (can't you get ashes turned into dimonds? if you can I'd save up and do that).

you cant put her in a strange place dead or not she will always see your home as her home so i say bury her in the garden x

Bumble Dog spends loads of time up at the airfield, so it is like a second home to her - and she always insists on peeing on where Harry is buried so I think she is trying to tell us something

no it wasnt aimed at anyone was just thinking of these pet grave yards would hate to think of one of mine in a strange place like that i agree if they have a fav spot thats good our old doberman is buried under a massive tree where we used to live in flats as she used to escape and go lie under it in the summer so no sorry if you thought was aimed at you it wasnt sorry x

Only bury on your own land IF you intend to stay there - that's always been my philosophy, hence none of our dogs have ever been buried at home.

I have never been bothered about where they go once they are dead - generally I leave them at the vets to be sent off to the incinerator.

However over here it will be different as we do intend staying here - Poppy will be in the same boat some point in the future and she will definitely be buried on this farm.

Sorry to hear about Wurzel - you have had many happy years with her and she with you.

Thanks everyone. I forgot to say that with previous pets, they have been either cremated en masse (dogs), put in the wheelie bin, or left out in the fields for the fox (small pets and chickens). The only pets to get proper burials have been goldfish and hamsters, for obvious reasons.

We are intending to stay here, but who knows what is round the corner?

My Grandmothers ashes are under a rosebush at the retirement home she and my Grandfather lived at....until he met someone else and moved out

First dog was buried in our field - she was a small springer spaniel but she still needed a massive hole and then we had to put a sheet of metal and bricks on top of her before filling the hole in to stop foxes digging her up.

With the next dog we went down the group cremation route as he was a much bigger dog and we would have needed an even bigger hole! Was quite pricey though.

Both mine have been cremated (on their own) and both are in their own casket. They will be scattered along with me.

Mine is getting buried. My aunt has her own land and he's going to be buried there. Her dog is there already.

when my dog was put down, he was cremated on his own. and we have his ashes at home.

We had our old boy cremated on his own just over a year ago, however my landlady always buried hers. We scattered Jordans ashes over his favourite bit of field.

My 16 year old Staff was PTS yesterday. I took him to the Royal Vet college, as they use a company called Peaceful pets www.peacefulpets.co.uk
He is being cremated, and put in an oak doggie box.
I used the same company for my horse 3 years back. Couldn't fault the wonderful service.

I would have mine buried in my garden or home grounds but that is just my opinion. Hope you can make a decision hun xxx

I had my Basset cremated and his ashes scattered up the gallops where i used to work at racing yard... he loved coming to work with me, running up the gallops trying to keep up with us on the horses!!! I reckon having the dog cremated gives us choice on where you want them to be... happy place.... or kept with us.

Oh I am so sorry to hear that. He was a great age! It is so sad to lose a dog, but I am sure he had a wonderful life and lived it to the full.

When my old dog died, we buried her in my parents back garden. My Grandad made me a little wooden sign for her grave. Sadly, he died suddenly 2 months later. If my parents ever move house, I will keep the marker.
