Hi everyone! I was wandering around the internet last night looking at random horsey stuff (as you do!), and came across the forum discussions on Burnham Market and the photos you'd had taken by the pro photographer. I was there as well - only on sunday, though - and took quite a lot of pics, afterwards I'd been thinking that I wish events could have some kind of photo gallery for spectators to donate their pictures incase the riders and horse owners would like to save any they found of themselves/their horses in action. Cos I know I'd love to have some of these if they were me and my horse (we don't event, she's too old and too small, and I'm not good enough or brave enough! heh), and it seemed such a shame that I'd just got them sitting here and wasn't able to get them available to the public like when the official photographers sell them.
I'm not claiming to be a great photographer or anything, but I do have a decent camera which can manage perfectly adequate action shots - so they come out well about half the time.

I don't know how many images we're allowed to post on this forum, I joined it especially to share these pics so I'm a bit of a newbie, but I'd guess that this many is Too Many By Far and will just pop them up as links

(usually, after events, I go through and identify every rider/horse combo I can from my notebook and their competitor number, but I just haven't had time to do that with this batch, so I can't provide handy name captions to locate yourselves if you were there, sorry!)

the jumps looked very familiar and I realise they're the same ones used at houghton international (also in norfolk) a couple of months ago!

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/7974-bayclose.jpg
unfortunately the good angle for horse closeups was always at the point where the rider looked to the next jump, so I got the backs of their heads, heh

I always think horses look vaguely amusing from the front caught with all four feet up like that, heh

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8408-greyagain.jpg
the camera seems better at sticking on greys when it's focusing, it must like the pale colour, so there's more good pics of greys than any other colour

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8402-prettygrey.jpg
this one has such a pretty araby head

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8404-wow.jpg
and I'm amazed by this photo, probably the best showjumping one I've ever taken. seriously, wow

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8420-chestnut.jpg
I've got the hang of focusing for that jump by now - not to focus the camera on the jump and wait, but to focus on the horse two strides out then track him along

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8409-fighting.jpg
fighting a bit

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8418-chestnut.jpg
another nice sharp one. of course there were loads more than this competing, but I'd already missed a lot by the time I got there, and the XC was going on at the same time so I was missing that and I didn't stay with the showjumping for very long

and here's the cross country - silly photobucket has shuffled them into some totally random order of it's own, so the novice, junior novice and intermediate are all jumbled up

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8466-splash.jpg
splash! I really liked doing the water jump photos on a sunny day, the spray really makes the photos more interesting (and only one person fell off, an she was fine, got back on and finished the course, so the water wasn't causing trouble like it did that day in the rain last time I was here and I didn't feel like one of those 'waiting by the water for people to fall off!' spectators you always get at events!)

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8480-water3.jpg
round the corner after the water was a really good spot for pictures, I managed more there than actually over the water jump itself, heh

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8615-sawbench.jpg
sawbench, this was difficult for pictures cos it was a long way from the water and not enough time to run there and back, heh

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8637-corner.jpg
this corner caused more problems than any other

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8643-parallel.jpg

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8650-spray.jpg
I couldn't take many here at the first water, cos of being in the shade the camera adjusted itself to let more light in so they all came out grainy and blurry

http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af63/georgies-new-bucket/horses/8291-andout.jpg
yes, I am the wrong side of the water jump, but I wasn't in the way of the horses, I stood back beside the fence judge's car and zoomed in a lot so it looks like I'm nearer than I really was, heh

then to eat dinner I went and sat on the big bank and steps bit which wasn't being used at all that day, it makes a good seat and had a nice view of one of the jumps, too

and finally, I love this one, even though it came out over-exposed and I missed half the horse out by being too zoomed, heh

As I said, I'd really like to share these, so you're more than welcome to save the ones you're in if I got you! Unfortunately this is actual size, I don't have any bigger better copies for printing.

That's all the 'best' ones I've uploaded, I did take several hundred more but some came out badly, some came out awfully, and a few were good but very similar to these so I'd kind of trimmed down to the best selection - if you were competing, or your horse was, just let me know the horse's colour, rider's colours, their competitor number, and anything else which might make you identifiable (eg. sheepskin breastplate, red saddlecloth, and so on), and I'll rummage through thoroughly to see if I've got any of you which I can upload

An event photo gallery what a brilliant idea. I was really disappointed with the pro pics from osberton, there were a number of "good" fences that I was hoping would be snapped and weren't. Unfortunately I bet pro photographers wouldn't like the idea.

Some lovely pics there, thanks for sharing

Glad to see you found my horse photogenic, there are 5 of her in the SJ

Shame you missed her XC as the pro photographer didn't choose the best of fences
