Well, Barry's 2nd intro at Burnham Beeches yesterday..what a superstar!
All went to plan journey-wise, had borrowed a trailer as now lost my lorry-lift, so just me and mum - praying for sun (didnt happen but we did miss the downpour at the end of the day!).
Had plenty of time to walk the xc - properly this time!
- looked like a fab course, a few more questions than Iping, but very inviting and well-presented. Watched a few go SJ, and then tacked up and trekked down to the dressage - through 2 fields, down a road, and into another field (think Baz was wondering why I'd plaited him up to go for a hack!).
His test didnt feel quite up to par with his recent ones, he was a little on his head and tight in the neck (and had a good look at the SCARY flowers on entering at A!) but he did do some good work, so pretty pleased, and hoped I'd be around the 30 mark.
SJ was on a surface which made a nice change, pretty straight-forward course, and he popped round nicely for a clear - had a moment where we were deep at the planks, and gave them a tap, but thankfully stayed put!
XC, he was awesome! Mum had walked over to the warm-up via the scoreboards, to tell me he was on a 29 dressage - best in the section - No pressure then!!
Hes feels so much more grown-up now, and is turning into quite a little tiger, certainly his favourite phase I think! Very calm at the start, but he now knows whats coming, and flew out of the box. The ground was perfect so I could afford to kick on, and he gave me an absolutely perfect round, was grinning all the way, though have to say I came round to the last, and all I could think was, DON'T mess this one up!
So lots of pats and carrots, did him off, and wandered over to the nice chocolate brownie man and a check on the scoreboard. He'd finished on his dressage score and won his section = mega chuffed me
We waited around for prize-giving, and wow they'd gone to town - he won a jumbo 4 tier rosette, a jumpers horseline fleece rug (v.smart and 6'6 so perfect size!), bandages, a lickit, and a free pic from photo-synergy! It was a shame many riders didnt turn up for the prize-giving, as they were giving away rugs/numnahs down to 7th, but I'm pretty sure these were forfeited - quite rightly imo! - if you didnt show up.
So all in all a fab day! It started pouring with rain as we left, so I do feel sorry for those PN'ing later on - I should think the perfect ground will have turned a bit slippy now for those running today.
Unfortunately there had to be a downer to the day, in that I'd stuck up a 'for sale' ad on the secretary's notice board..anyhow my mobile rung about half an hour into our journey home, and I just had this feeling, and nearly didnt answer the phone(!)..someone wants to come and see him Monday morning. I'm gutted
This is the first ad I'd put anywhere, so hadnt really expected a call yet..needless to say reality kind of hit, and the rest of the 2 hour journey was rather quiet - I think mum and I were both pondering how to rob a bank and keep him for the next year whilst I'm at uni. I actually feel quite ill at the thought of tomorrow.
Still, they may not like him/not be able to ride/not show up, here's hoping
