Last year my YO decided to have the fields sprayed while my horse was in it. This resulted in a burnt nose and a very lumpy bumpy horse.

The whole situation was sorted out and there are now (almost) no hard feeling for the whole incident.

But I was warned at the time that Safs nose would burn really easily from now on.

Here lies my problem, no matter how much suncream i put on her nose she is getting burnt and now has a sore looking nose thats got all scabby. Im using factor 30 suncream but I'm sure the minute i turn my back she just wipes it all off and laughs at me.

Anyone else have this problem, any ideas on what i can use??

Thanks

I use factor 50...... Nivea for kids. Merlins nose burns easily as its so pink, but this keeps the scabs at bay

Also have been keeping him in the stable for the hottest part of the day

I would up the factor, use a child cream with the highest factor you can get. Additionally you may find that a nose net could help keep the sun off.

Zinc and castor cream (nappy cream stuff), works wonders on our pink nosed cobs, cleared one of there noses up in one day after being abit scabby, and it doesn't rub off well as its quite thick.

Agree with MerlinsQuest re factor 50 Nivea. We have a grey with a pink nose that was very badly scarred when we bought her, but this seems to do the trick!

I use factor 50 kids waterproof cream and then ontop I plaster sudocream. This seems to stop her nose getting pink and burnt plus I use a fly bonnet with a nose flap.

yup as high a factor as you can get hold of and slap it on really thick
my mare learnt the smell of the sun tan lotion and hated having it put on with it being soooooo thick and cold on her nose - it was really sweet when she was having it on - just like a stroppy child...

Sun cream and definatly a nose guard - my poor pink nose monster, goes for a drink as soon as he gets to the field and is gradually learning to get more and more sun cream off - it is my fault I got a factor 50 for kids but it smells of strawberrys - it was on 3 for 2, so hes only got another few weeks of it left. I also use the nose guard when I am between classes at a show, (although if it is a long class I will put sun cream on) as you dont really want a smeared showing jacket, and neither does the judge (lol)

Mine has only factor 30- but it is soooo thick and saliva and water proof. Brilliant stuff!!! His nose is still white 8 hours after application

My horse is a bu@@er to get cream on, I bought him as a rescue with third degree burns on his nose and the vet told me he can't afford to have it burn again but I can't get cream on, I guess cos he remembers how sore it was.

I do use factor 50 though because it gives better protection, the down side is that being thick it takes twice as long to get it on him.

LOL yes I've tried those but they pull each others off, they really don't help each other do they
