My mare, Polly had a bone spavin form over winter 06/07 then in the april 07 got bursitis in the same hock. 3 months rest and it came right then a month or so later she had a knee problem which grumbled away but ended up with her resting over the winter. She had turnout in the day and in at night.
By april this year she was fine so I began riding her. I began gentle work and built up to half hour sessions with some strides of trot, everything was fine til friday morning. I got on and immediatly felt she wasnt right so got hubby to have a look as I lead her out and yes the same lameness as last year with the same swelling so looks like the bursitis is back so 3 months off again.
Its not a capped hock or any of the ones down the back/point of the hock and its not a bog spavin either. I will probably be having a chat with the vet tomorrow anyway but wondered if anyone has experience of anything like this? I cant seem to find much info on the net either.
With the looks of things I think she may end up not being ridden, bless her.
She is a 14hh welsh type and is only 10 yrs.
She is having bute x at the moment and I give her daily reiki. Just thought someone might know something til I chat with vet.
