Forgive the soppy post but literally had to share how brill my coblet was tonite. Had him since he was a just backed (never been handled before breaking in) three year old - and because he can be incredibly spooky, everything has taken lots of time (slowly, slowly from rugging him to jumping). Although now 6, he's still quite green.

In the interests of showing him new things, went for a group lesson tonite at another yard. Got there and the rest of the group were on 168cm+ schoolmaster types, and then there's me with my eyes-out-on-stalks coblet. Then realized that this session of the tuition (which was part of a three parter - I had watched the other two and there were quite straightforward) had dramatically increased in difficulty - working up to grid combinations of 80/90cm spreads leading onto related distances verticals. (I know this isn't really big as such but me and the young coblet do little unaffilitated shows - nothing too stressful)

Gulp, gulp, gulp. At the start, I decided that if we got a couple of cross-poles, we'd bow out gracefully after 15 mins or so.

But the coblet had other ideas; drew himself upto full height; kept up with the horses (his little legs were only hitting the ground in spots); and got stuck in - and literally flew everything put in front of him - his jump has never felt as good.We bowed out when the schoolmasters started to go beyond 1m.

Sorry for the soppiness but isn't the best thing in the world that feeling of achievement that horses can give you...there is nothing like it.

Tea and cake for anyone who made it this far....

You must be very proud! Makes everything worth it doesn't it. Glad you had fun - sounds like you have a smashing horse. :D
