Did anyone else go the the Gala Night yesterday?

I left after Geoff Billington's demo as someone told me that the SJ class was cancelled due the problem with the power (lights kept going off) and I didn't want to get stuck in the rush to leave (or the snow).

Cancellation appeared to be true as horses were being loaded ready to leave when I walked through the lorry park.

If you were there what announcement/explanation was given and did they mention what would happen re: everyone who had bought tickets or entered the class? Just wondering really?

Yes, it's true - clearly with the lights cutting out intermittently for power reasons, there's no way they could safely run a showjumping competition so, after consulting with the showjumpers, it was agreed the class would be cancelled.

The owner of Bury Farm went into the arena and announced that tickets for last night's Gala Evening will be replaced with tickets for the next such event that they stage - they really can't do any more than that! So hang on to last night's tickets, you'll be able to trade them in

And you did well to beat the traffic - took us about 20 minutes to get away from Bury Farm then about another 1/2 hour following one of the big boxes all the way through Dunstable to the M1!

My daughter was also there and it took her nearly an hour to drive home to Dunstable. She said that Geoff Billington was great and that her tickets would be able to be used for the next Gala Event. Mind you I find it really ridiculous that a place that size that holds some fairly major events only has ONE generator.

It certainly seems daft to try to run a place that size with just one generator - and one that can't handle the load to boot! Ginormous generators are available because hospitals have them in case of power failure.

Talking to someone at Addington, they had to pay for an electric sub-station in the local village in order to avoid the problems Bury Farm had (they also have a back-up generator in place, just in case) - maybe that's the route Bury farm should/should have gone. I'd not be willing to enter any shows held at Bury Farm during winter months if they can't guarantee to keep the lights on.

Anyone got a shilling for the meter? :D

We went, and enjoyed what did take place. Convo about the lack of light brought up that it may have been a planning issue that stopped mains being allowed, although would be mad if it is, in view of both size of the place, and whats planned to take place.
Didnt take us long to get out, but yonks to get home as idiots out in force and driving too dangerously to get anywhere near as were slipping all over the roads!
Look forward to being warmer at the next one! !!

What a disappointing evening, poorly organised and severe lack of customer care, definitely will be getting my money back, have no intention of going back there again, despite the fact they are struggling financially due to a water problem, by law as they did not provide the show they advertised everyone who went is entitled to a refund so I am certainly settling for nothing less!
