Hi,

following on from my recent rehoming rottie post poor Storm has now been castrated and is bouncing off everything with his collar on. We are trying to intergrate him with our dogs & it doesn't help when he is walking into them with a bl**dy great lampshade on his head.

Can anyone recommend any alternatives without having to order anything as we really need a quick fix to prevent any collar instigated fights.

We have tried a muzzle but he has already worked out how to pull it off.

Thank you

I've just been lent a soft foam collar for my lurcher and its great but not really any help if you don't want to buy anything! have you tried taking the collar off to see if he actually pays any attention to his wound - maybe just putting the collar on when he is in bed (on his own) would be the best solution if you are with him the rest of the time.

Is he actually bothering with the stitches? If not try him without the collar, I have only occasionally used a collar when mine have had stitches, sometimes they surprise you and don't really fuss with them, particular in the early days. I used a comfy collar (like a big rubber ring) when my old girl did bother with stitches, but obviously you would need to order one. You could try putting an old t shirt on him (back legs through arms) to protect the wound, but for now I would def see how he is without anything.

Thank you guys, saying we I don't want to order anything makes me sound really tight & it's not that - I just think by the time it arrives it will be a bit late anyway!!

We tried taking the collar off but he did fuss the stitches so it had to go back on - the trouble is as we have only just got him he is partly caged so it's a bit awkward for him.

MurphysMinder the T shirt idea sounds like it might help depending on whether the stitches are tummy end or back end, so it could be worth a try. Thank you :)

Harley grazed his testicles in the summer (serious ouch!) and ended up with painkiller, anti-b's and a lampshade. He hated the lampshade though and it was a real pain, so I put one football shorts on him!!! (elasticated waist with a draw string)

I did take them off for walks though, as obviously he couldn't go to the toilet with them on!! But he couldn't only have quiet on lead walks as he had to keep his privates clean!

Don't know if that might be a possibilty?

Yes that's a great idea galaxy23. He has already managed to slip the t shirt off the back so my husband is in the process of putting a t shirt on the front too & stitching them together.

I'll wait until he's finished stitching and then I'll suggest the shorts :D
