Bit recommendation please for a fleshy mouthed, big tongue horse who tends to lean and overly mouth the bit causing himself to pinch the skin on his cheeks inside his mouth when ridden. Note he is up to date with everything and Dentist says he has amazing teeth for his age.

Please from a desperate owner!

As there doesn't appear to be a lot of room in his mouth maybe try something with a thinner mouthpiece eg a Myler comfort snaffle.

As he leans and is damaging himself, I would also try a couple of other things (in a safe enclosed space to start with). First I would try a kineton noseband. I would also try a hackamore or other types of bitless.

I’ve ridden him in a hackamore lots of times but moved back to a bit after he shook his bridle off out hacking in a tantrum! I always thought Kineton nosebands were quite severe and would worry about trying that.

Will look into myler comfort.

Kinetons are not severe at all. They do need to be fitted correctly with a bit of the correct size. A horse that has been ridden in a hackamore will be used to having some pressure on the nose anyway, so it definitely shouldn't be a big deal.

Bomber happy tongue bits are excellent. I have tried everything under the sun in my big mare, including bitless, noseband combo’s, she used to try every trick to evade the contact.
the bomber was a revelation. She is content and i have really good brakes as well!
