Took my boy hunting yesterday - ground was very soft in places so there was some slipping and sliding as he is not the most balanced of horses.

He is lame this morning so cold hosed him and gave him 2 bute.

I have a small stash of bute from when my old boy went very lame (sadly lost him 2 months later).

I don't want to call vet out yet as they will just say box and bute - so will treat myself for a few days first.

But...

would 2 bute am and 2 bute pm be ok for a couple of days - or is that too much?

Could call vet in morning to check but not sure if to give him 2 more tonight.

Thanks peeps.

I would say too much but I'm no expert, we've had various reasons for giving bute and never given more than 2 a day.

Our 14hh fell x had 2 a day for 5 days when she got a kick to the face and was very sore, couldn't put her head to the ground to eat which is disasterous for a cob :p

Just to say - I initially though 2x2 a day as that's what the vet prescibed my old boy; but he was very lame and was PTS due to his injury

My boy had 2 twice a day on the first day, then one twice a day for 4 days when we were treating his sarcoid.

Datasheet instructions say the same: http://www.noahcompendium.co.uk/Dechra_Veterinary_Products_Ltd/Equipalazone_ACY-reg_ADs-_1_g_Oral_Powder/-27407.html

Maybe worth a call to your vet just to check they are happy bute is suitable for him and what dose they feel is appropriate for him given his size and any other medical problems?

Thanks - that was really helpful
