I have a old companion pony who is getting a bit arthritic . He needs a bute the day before farrier to make it more comfy to bend his knees for a while etc
I would like him to have a joint supplement as well now to help him a bit but I am concerned about giving both.
I am sure they should not have devils claw at same time as bute? Am I correct?
A lot of supplements seem to have devils claw in.
I will ring vet on monday to check but was just wondering if there are any effective supplements that can be given alongside bute.
He is 29 and happy in himself just a bit creaky when having to hold his legs up for farrier etc.

Not tried Boswelia. Can it be used as well as bute?
Google says "Yes, Boswellia can be used at the same time as Bute, and some horse owners have reported positive results:
  • Joint health: Boswellia can be used in addition to or instead of Bute to support joint health. Boswellia contains boswellic acid, which can reduce inflammation and support joint health.
  • Pain relief: Boswellia can help ease acute and chronic pain, especially in horses with degenerative joint diseases.
  • Digestive health: Boswellia may also aid digestion."

I buy 65% Boswellia from Riaflex, it definitely helps to keep my two oldies comfortable.

It’s not as effective as a POM NSAID, but for the mildly creaky it’s great stuff.

Thank you. I will give it a try. If he needs bute all the time in the future so be it but would rather he has a more natural supplement and just bute as and when. He is a tough little cookie and I dont want him in pain.
