Over the years I have been trying anything and everything to get my horse to take Bute. (Tried the other stuff too - Danilon, Pro Dynam etc with the same result - won't touch it). All suggestions have failed - and believe me we have tried everything - but this weekend I had a breakthrough: 2 teaspoons of fruity yoghurt mixed with Bute which is then put in a syringe and squirted into his mouth. The only thing I need to do afterwards is tickle his tongue and make him swallow otherwise he will just stand there oozing saliva and gunk. Can't believe its working!!! What's more, after a few minutes he will take a polo mint from me and eat it. His usual reaction would have been to refuse anything as, of course, it must be poisoned!
