My horse has been dragging hind toes (see 'toe dragging' post below). He is normally on 1 sachet/bute day, for his hock spavin. The vet has been totally happy with this continuation for a long while. He slipped in the school a few weeks ago. He has been toe dragging since (which he does not normally do). I increased bute to 2 sachets/day for a few days - Last Sun to this Tues am. I wanted to see if after this had been withdrawn he was better as it may have relaxed everything. Today (two and a half days after 2 sachets was reduced to one, he is fine, (except slight drag of one toe). I have cancelled vet c

oming out for now. Will see how he is start of next week and decide if vet is required. I am concerned he may still have levels of bute in his blood above that which 1 sachet would produce. How long do you think it would take for the decrease to kick in? I may be getting a false picture.

If it was me i would ring vets and ask opinion about bute, but also the continuation of 'new' action. Has your farrier seen action? could he shoe to help out???

I believe withdrawal for dope testing with bute is 7 days so I guess it stays in the blood and could be having an effect. I would have thought after this period you know the higher dose has worn off.
