You mean a butterfly flip bit - a butterfly bit is something different that clips on.

Anyway what you are after is a very glammed up kimblewick with an extra forward hook to give extra leverage and poll action

My advice - try a double jointed or happy mouth kimblewick first - about 23% of the cost of this bit and will soon tell you whether your neddy likes a kimblewick.

If you have one a pelham with rounding is not disimilar, but a kimblewick is quite unique and tolerated where a pelham is not. However if your horse hates a curb chain better to test out before spending £90......

Happy mouths are actually quite hard compared to a rubber pelham, as they don't flexi very well.

Nathes are a different kettle of fish, and much better mouthing properties. If going down this route for SJ or dressage (assuming - why change if happy xc), I'd try a loose ring straight bar nathe, before trying anything fancy.

Try the Nathe Pelham....they are super. though i also love the butterfly flip bit. it is similiar to a pelham with roundings but i find big differences in how horses can react to it. its like any bit really...mybe try borrow one and see what you think

I XC my horse in a Nathe Butterfly flip. He is sometimes too strong in his snaffle, but backs off a 3-ring 'snaffle', a pelham or a kimblewick.

He's not always strong, but is a big lad, so I needed 'something' extra for some moments!!!

I borrowed one to try him, and he was great in it, so I bit the bullet and bought one. He is much more forward (we get the optimum time now!), but I still have control.

Expensive, but for me, the only thing I tried that we were both happy with.
