Would you buy second hand/used rugs? Just had a huge vets bill and can't afford to pay loads to buy brand new turnout rugs as my mare completely ripped hers to shreds last year. Think i might just get a L/W and a H/W and miss out on the M/W rug. I also wanted to buy my gelding new turnouts as he had ringworm last year and i'm scared of him getting it again and spreading it if i put them back on even though they have been washed! I just didn't know whether to buy 2nd hand/used rugs incase say for example the horse (like my gelding) may of had ringworm!! Thanks for your help in advance!! I panic too much!!

If they've been washed they should be fine. Very few horses have ringworm, and even fewer folk would sell a ringwormy rug - but if I were you, I'd just use your old rugs (washed).
Horses develop a certain amount of immunity to ringworm and generally cure themselves in about 6 weeks without treatment so try not to worry so much.

Try e-bay, or look on your local feed shop noticeboard. Or you could try asking at your yard - I did and had offers of rugs.
And I would stop your mare's carrot money, and lecture her on the value of possessions.

If you are worried perhaps you could soak any 2nd hand rugs (or you own) in a disinfectant that kills ringworm. I think Virkon is one.

2nd hand rugs are often a bargain and you can afford a better quality rug by buying 2nd hand.

I bought a rather smart looking rug 15yrs ago for £40 and it's still going strong. Well, the tail flap fell off years ago, but the rest of it is fine and it's been on 3 very different horses and fitted them all well.

I would buy secondhand rugs without worrying about it. Just get them cleaned when they arrive, unless the seller has had them cleaned immediately prior to sale. Get some good bargains from Ebay and the like secondhand. And also some new ones at pretty good prices sometimes too.

Go for something with at least a 1200 denier ripstop outer like a Rambo/ weatherbeeta orican/Fal Viking/Pessoa/ or Shires Typhoon. Ebay often has very good quality second hand rugs for sale just get them washed and reproofed.

Tbh I have bought very few brand new rugs. 3 were bought cheaply from the stalls outside Leominster the day I got Mcfly. Then I got a couple of nice Kingshead rugs in a job lot that cost me well over £150. I sold the brand new pony one and bridles out of the job lot so in the end the rugs cost me next to nothing. Otherwise I have bought a few brand new fleece rugs.
All the rest, sweat, coolers, stable and turnout have been secondhand. If they are clean they go straight on but most have arrived needing a wash. Those that could fit in a machine have been done in there and the rest soaked in a bath and then scrubbed and rinsed etc.
Touch wood I have had no problems with ringworm up to yet.
I would def recommend ebay though because people sell rugs for all sorts of reasons and you can drop on bargains.
If you don't mind selling though and you want new it may be an idea to look at some job lots and then just sell on the bits you don't want and if you are very lucky the rug(s) could end up costing you nothing.
