I have decided to sell my lovely little KA and buy something I can tow with, fed up with relying on my lovely mother for transport (as is she

I've got a Daihatsu Fourtrak and it's fantastic for towing with. With a 2.8 turbo diesel engine it unsurprisingly costs me significantly more to run than my cheap 1.4 runaround that I used to drive, but it was the only way for me to get my horse mobile so I didn't have much choice. I would strongly recommend them.

Have you tried towing with one yourself? I find mine tows like a dream. Never had a problem with it. Goes up hills no trouble and is really stable with the trailer on.

ETS: Just seen your signature - you wouldn't be trying to persuade her in the direction of a Jeep would you

We've got a four-trak and it's great for towing. We tow an Ifor Williams trailer with it, one of the slightly larger than normal ones, not sure what size, although admittedly only with one smallish horse most of the time.

Your farrier speaks a lot of sense! We're on our second and keeping our eyes open for a third! It tows like a dream, very stable, not too expensive to keep on the road compared to some; you can still get parts easily too. Can't recommend highly enough tbh, far better than son's Mitsubushi and more comfortable than a LR! SN loves hers too!

I have an X Trail, Nissan, and tow a 17hh horse in Ifor Williams 510 and love it. I do around 30,000 miles a year in it and it hasn't let me down yet. Good luck with your search

ive just bought a grand jeep cherokee, havnt towed with it yet as dont have a trailer but know a few people who rated them quite highly . next time your at the jays ill let you have a spin round the field in it..andrea wont mind...MUCH ! lol

Im towing with a Isuzu Trooper, I couldnt recomend it enough, its not the most nice looking car, but it tows like a dream !

Theres a website somewhere that tells you what tows what, and the trooper came up best.

We used to have a pretty beat up Fourtrack named Daisy by my wife. It was a solid little car that towed well and could hold a lot of 'stuff'. The turning circle was a bit rubbish, but other than that I liked it. Rot got to the fuel tank in the end and so we bought a SWB Pajero diesel auto, which is a really impressive car that serves many perposes including occasional towing which it handles easily.

A couple of years ago I drove a LWB version from Bavaria to Somerset in around 14 hours, full of shooting gear and with four adults (inc me). I did have sore shoulders by the end of the drive, but that was my only complaint.

I'm a firm Pajero fan

weve got a fourtrack and when we were looking it was highly rated by eveyone as a proper workhorse no frills but could pull a house . i would recomend

I love my LWB automatic Pajero, but it is quite thirsty as it is my only transport

It is quite old but high spec - climate control etc. I have heard good things about the four track as well.

I currently have

Trooper LWB 3l TD: Love it, the poor thing is half dead (it's 15yo!) and still chugging away and tows nicely.

Nissan Patrol "Elegance" LWB 3l TD: Just bought it to replace the above, it's bloody massive (bigger than either of my other two!) but towed beautifully & is super comfy inside, much more "executive" than the Trooper

Range Rover Sport 4l TD: Very swish, love the self lowering suspension button for hitching up but it's *so* thirsty and a complete wanky-banker's car (it's my OH's

)

ETA: To fix spelling mistakes and to add (before I get jumped on) that I realise all RR owners are *not* wanky-bankers...infact I covet a RR myself.

Whats the budget?

I have a kia and its fab for towing

Then today someone was telling me about japanese imports. When a car is 10 years old over there, they have to get rid of them by law. So if you are looking for a very tidy car with low mileage its a good place to start! (Japan is quite small, so they cannot do the mileage, and this is mainly mitsubishi and toyotas)

My Trooper is an import as is my Mazda MX5.

The trooper came in '99 with 25k (km) on the clock on a 94 plate. Was very clean inside. It replaced another jap import Trooper (96 plate, 15k miles) but the upgraded one with Lexus suspension & steering which was written of 3 days off the lorry - it later turned out to have been heavily clocked.

My MX5 came as an *immaculate* (plastic coverings still on the brushed chrome door speaker panels) executive (V-spec) model - leather interior, wooden dash, speakers in the headrest, upgraded steering. It has less than 12k on the clock and it's original wheels!

Would have another in a shot as long as it was checked for clocking & as a bonus they're generally autos which suits me!

Used to have a 3.2 petrol Trooper, absolutely bloody amazing for towing and general shunting about, and towing boyfriends cars out of ditches. Sadly some retard wrote her off (whilst she was parked, the indignity!) Now have a 2.5 diesel Navara, wheel base a little longer to get used to maneuvering but just as beefy and more solid on the motorway as he is lower.
Yes my cars have names and genders...

I have a Nissan Terrano, and it's great it's a 2.7 turbo diesel, and it tows my 505 with two highlands up no probs, I would get another when this one goes.I can highly recommend them.

I like my Terrano 2.7 diesel, tows brill, overtook a lorry up a long hill going to Winscar Resevoir with my double rice trailer and 14.2 Po in the back, made a hole in my fuel bill though, mind I did hoof it for over 1.5 hours up the motorway.

Hi, fourtraks are brill to tow with!!!! I've got an ifor williams 510 trailer (big one) and tow it with my two big ISH horses in (16.3hh and 16hh) and it hardly feels like its pulling anything!! This is my second fourtrak, I've had this one since new and its now 8 years old, may not be the most refined vehicle in the world but for towing a horsebox and using at the yard its just the job. Horses for courses as they say!!!!!!!!

we had a fourtrak - fantastic little car pulled brilliantly not the most luxurious but you can't have everything. Used to take 60 lambs to market in a large trailer easily and tow the horse - not at the same time. However, when there were four of us OH and 2 chimps there wasn't much room for tack and clothes and trangaloons the kids would sit with their feet on the ice box with a saddle between over the back seat and jackets over the windows.
We are now on our second Toyota Landcruiser loads of room and tows well and very comfy and goes well off road round the sheep. Bit of a gas guzzler though.

Going 4x4 shopping at the weekend , Going for either a discovery 2003 or grand cherokee 2003 , Will have a drive in both so how it goes, We currently have a jeep cherokee , it towed great until the head went , according to hubbie whos a mechanic said the engine with a 4 cylinder head are disaster and are pretty pricey to fix, He put in a new head gasket and it cost us £800 , So now that it has a new head , Its now going to a new home . Naughty jeep
