Hello

After having made the decision that I will be trading in my lorry and car for a jeep and trailer, what is the best, to buy Trade, or Privately?

I can't afford dealership prices, but on Autotrader, there seems to be more Trade sellers than Private ones?

cheers guys.

What you find is that people who will trade your old car in for a new one will give you less than it's worth. (And then sell it on for a good bit more!) Whereas if you sell it privately you will get better money.
Now this is just thorugh car selling I don't know about the horse lorry side of things! :S

If you are not part exchanging, and have your finance in place, you will save money buying privately. However, do get someone who knows about cars to check it over, make sure it has full history (should be a wodge of paperwork), and run an HPI check or equivalent. There are some very good tips about buying privately on the Autotrader website. If you do buy from a dealer, make sure they are a reputable one who are likely to stay in business long enough to honour their warranty!

As a girly with very little time/inclination to look under the bonnet of anything I have always been happy to buy privately. I bought myself a trooper and disco from private sellers and never had any problems. I was lucky enough to have my dad/brother look them over beforehand and if I didn't have that option I would put my trust in on of those aa or rac vehicle inspections which cost about 100 quid. Worth the investment and still works out at less than buying from a dealer. Dealers tend to thnk they can stick an extra grand onto a 4x4 price if it is a fashionable one such as a freeloader or shogun.

I, too, got rid of lorry and bought Discovery and Trailer. I found a guy who buys does up and sells Landrovers and at decent affordable prices although they tend to be older models they go forever as they are diesel, very happy with mine and had it four years. I'm sure I have his number somewhere so if you are interested PM me. I have the luxury of being very knowledgeable about mechanics etc which definatly confused people as I disappeared under the vehcile crawling about whilst hubby chatted and looked at paperwork. Definatly find someone to have a look at it for you as I viewed some vehilces that were completly unroadworthy.
Good luck

have you tried advertising your lorry for a 4x4 and trailer exchange, there may be some one out there who wants to upgrade to a lorry
