Seen someone put up for sale a really nice looking field shelter on a local fb group which is one year old by a reputable stable manufacturer. Cost £3500 new and they are looking for about half that but buyer needs to dismantle and uplift.

My OH is somewhat unkeen and says it will not be quite the same once it has been dismantled. Just wondering if anyone else done this successfully and it is really worth it by the time you have spent the time dismantling, transporting then rebuilding?

We transported a whole one on a low loader! Problem is if you take down the roof joints can become weak. However we did move a 12 month set of stables by taking apart and they are good! However the makers came back and did it! If you do label everything!

I take your OH's point and he is right. It is really a question of what is more valuable to you, time or money.

If taking down and rebuilding, is the shelter sectional? Anyway, I think I would be adding cross bracing, i.e. incorporate some means of securing the diagonals of each section that can be tightened up. Maybe tighten up each section with ratchet straps, then bolt on the diagonals to tighten everything up. Bolting to a concrete slab or dwarf walls would also help.

Google Images for "diagonal bracing" to understand what I'm getting at.

I bought and moved a single stable off a friend who had already had it moved once so this was the second time it had been dismantled and rebuilt. Never had any problems with it, went back together perfectly although was helped by the fact it was sectional and was of excellent quality to start with. I then sold it via ebay so it was dismantled again! All in all it will have been in 4 different places!
