Hello,

Haven't been in this part of the forum for ages. My horse B has recently been diagnosed with DJD along with lots of other exciting things which i shan't bore you with but mean that it's best if he is retired (at 8 years old you can imagine i'm not that happy) I am now in the process of looking for another horse to ride so Bailey can spend his days with his friends, eating and generally being a love.

I will be in a financial position to buy something decent in July and so would like to start looking at what is out there to get an idea of the market. Bailey is a Clydesdale cross and has been perfect for me and reafirmed my love of heavy horses. Ideally i would like to stay with the Clydesdale breed but would be interested in Shire/Percheron etc.

So i was hoping that someone may know of heavy horse breeder/yard or a private sale i would be interested to know.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Becky xx

Just as a suggestion it might be helpful to say what area you are in

Aaah yes, it would wouldn't it!

I live in West Yorkshire but i am willing to travel around most of the North to find the right one.

I would suggest Matthew Gregory King as well. Otherwise just keep looking in your local Ad Traders and on the usual websites. I have two heavies. One is a black Clydesdale x and is absolutely wonderful. The other is a big Russian Vladimir. They have the most wonderful kind temperaments - good luck with your search!

There are plenty of places in your area - try getting a copy of Heavy Horse World.

Personally, you cannot beat a Clydie - but then we have one. They do seem to be the most agile of the heavies - not as wide and nice long legs.

For riding you are better off with one around the 17 hand mark - Cairo is 16.3 (nearly) and in the past has done everything at local level from dressage, SJ, XC, endurance and western.
