Hi,

A friend of mine brought a horse from there a few years ago, its had nothing but problems and in the end retired it as a companion. I guess its buyer beware...

Not quite a sales thing, but look at the weather forecast! Sounds random, but having been stuck on a ferry back from the TB bloodstock sales in Ireland with 3 foals in the lorry below when the seas got choppy and you can't go down to check them is horrible.

As with any sales really, buyer beware and always buy knowing they may not be perfect or all they first seem.

I'd say it was bad luck with your friend Curragh.
Have known several people that have bought and sold through Goresbridge with positive feedback. To sell there, horses must pass a vetting.
With any sale you need to know what you are looking for and have your wits about you.

I have bought from goresbridge, but you do have to have your eyes wide open. Quality of horses is really going down hill, because the owners arent willing to let the quality horses go for such low prices. (and the prices were low in the Sept sale!)

As a general rule, dont buy anything older than 5. A good established horse will sell privately and wouldnt need to go to the sales. Also you find that lots of the horses have come from the UK as they haven`t worked out. Also dont buy from the smaller sales. Wait for the Sept sale if you can.

Sprite1978 I couldn't disagree with you more, my girlfriend got her horse from Goresbridge at the age of 12, he has won over £500 both in Ireland and here combined and you couldn't get a better horse for what she paid for him, he has never been sick or sorry and jumps double clear every time out, He did however come from the Sept sale.

Stroppy...... I didnt mean to suggest that no good horses over 5 go through. However unless you are extremely experienced, you have to make a decision very quickly and with the added pressure of having so many to choose from. It sometimes comes down to minimising the risks, and the over 5`s have a higher chance of being in the sales for a reason... Health, temperment, ability issues. I have bought a 6 year old from the sales, so i know there are good ones out there.

I would agree with be careful buying anything over 3 or 4. The good horses of that age are usually sold without going to a sale and the ones that people get left with go to the sales. Doesn't mean you won't get a good one but do be careful

Cavan sales start again in March - they might be worth a look as well. You need to decide what you are looking for, get the catalogue and see what might be suitable. Saying that the last sales I went to we had 28 possibles from the catalogue and after looking at them I only bid on 1.
I would ditto BallyshanHorses re experience. Good luck you'll have fun.
