Well I have just paid £250 for a nice 13.3 NF which is not completely sound following an injury (should be fine in a couple of months we think). I was happy as he is a super companion for my horse and we are not in a rush to ride him.
I wouldn't, unless you absolutely know what you are doing...laminitis is not straightforward and can end up being very expensive and long term.
I have taken on a laminitis pony but he was given to me...I certainly would not have paid any money for him.
Im sorry but I wouldnt pay anything over £100 as a token amount! If the lami is bad it can take a lot of work and money to bring right. They really shouldnt be trying to sell it in this state anyway.
I would say bugbee would be more than capable of looking after and managing a lamanitic pony and therefore support her in the decision totak eon on. I do think your in for the long haul but you know that.
Good luck.

Personally I would pay nothing. I wouldn't even want it for free.

Ditto. I was always told you never pick the runt of the litter, no matter how cute it may be, or how much you convince yourself you can help it... and the same goes for horses IMO.
I've seen plenty of fit and healthy welshies for the £300-500 mark and sometimes less, so wouldn't be wanting a lami one.

Sorry but I have forgotten the rest of the ponies details. ie age, experience , temperament etc. You cannot base a price simply on the fact that it is overweight and has laminitis.
thank you for your advice, i have offered her owner £250, i know i could get a young pony for that amount, but it really is not about having a pony that can be rode or is cheap.
it is about the welfare of the pony.
her current owner does not have the time or money to do the best for her.
i am in the lucky position that i can offer her a home, with the vet care and her day to day needs which she should have been getting.
i fully understand how aweful lami is, but if managed well it is treatable.
plus when you have three children that love these animals you have no choice but to care for them, because i would not want to answer to them why they are having to be put to sleep.
this is what i have said about our other two ponies and the same would apply her her as well.
just to end it on a lighter note she does not have any french or is that franch in her he he
once again thanks
My original post on this thread went along the lines ' Its not just a Welsh a you can get for the same money blah blah' I thought the word 'just' made it sound patronising so change the post
If you are prepared for what may lay ahead (or not hopefully) then it sounds like you are doing this little pony a huge favour...best of luck
For what its worth...I took on my lami pony with full blown laminitis. His pedal bones have rotated a fair bit (read alot) but he has just coming back into work and has barely cost me a thing thanks to his weight dropping off once I sorted out his diet...which consisted of soaked hay and Happy Hoof
